WD Green 1.5 TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, SATA III, 64 MB Cache - WD15EARX

I bought two of these for Windows 7 and Linux and they have been working great. I can't believe how quiet they are. I put them in a new computer where everything is much quieter than my 11-year-old one Even with everything else making little noise, you can't hear them spin up or seek or anything. I see the little LED come on that says they're doing something but that's the only indication.

We use these for our Video Production Storage. They are a good size for a five camera production over one or two days. So far, in five years, these green drives have proved to be reliable for working off of (using HDD docks).

I bought the Western Digital Caviar Green drive, 1.5 TB, based on the generally good reviews, the reasonable price (about $115), and also because it comes with free software (WD Acronis TrueImage, available as a free download on the WD Support site) so that I could create a bootable backup of my disk drive. The drive works just fine (based on 1 week of use), but the free software refused to install, repeatedly saying that I don't have a WD drive installed on my system. I tried WD support, which did respond, but their suggestion was simply to download and try installing the software again, to no avail. So, I ended up using another product to clone my hard drive onto the WD drive. So far, the WD drive is fast, quiet, and working fine with about 100,000 files on it, and lots of free room for future use.

This was the 3rd one of these fine drives I have bought, So far, all 3 are performing well and as advertised. I have them in E sat enclosures for my Macbook Pro and love the speed and overall ease of operation.

had it a long time, holds a lot, works great. i'm not a benchmarker, but has been as good any hard drive i've ever had except my raptor. was a very good value.

I'm not usually this negative, or pessimistic over a review, or a product, but this drive is quite possibly the biggest mistake you could possibly make. At the time, it seemed like a great idea, 64mb cache, 1.5tb, Sata3 interface. But the problem that I decided not to pay attention to, was its intellipower...Granted, it's a nice feature that should save power in theory, but it will never be the 7200rpm that the caviar black is, which pretty much makes the fact that it's a sata 3 connection, pointless. This all being said, some of the numbers are there to make you think it's an amazing buy, but it's not. I say all this, before telling that the one I ordered from amazon came DOA, and the replacement arrived DOA. They're not a quality piece of product in any sense of the word. I've come to realize that the hard, if not pointless way, after trying a third drive from another company, that also arrived DOA. Basically any negative comment you read about this drive, whether it's plagued with bad grammar, or bad spelling, is probably based in more truth then any of the lucky few that received a working drive.

I've rated this because it is as expected i.e. it did not fail and it is quite. IT was nicely packaged, however the was no cover information about disk speed.

This drive works well in my 2nd generation Drobo. In general I've had much better luck with Western Digital drives than Seagate. I plan to stay with Western Digital from now on because they last longer.

Compra fantástica. 1500GB por 50 euros, parece fiable y sé que hubiesen comprado 2, pero se necesita una unidad externa.

A l'instar des disquettes d'il y a quelques années, on devrait pouvoir trouver des disque dur pré formatés, ceci surtout pour les béotiens comme moi, qui de surcroît ont un pc sous Vista ! En effet avec cette machine, j'ai échoué lamentablement et j'ai eu la chance de pouvoir installer ce nouveau disque sur une machine avec xp pro, et là miracle, tout a fonctionné....ensuite remonté sur le pc Vista, et hop ça marche !

This was a great storage solution for my HTPC, as the drive is very quiet, with low power consumption. This comes at a performance cost, so I recommend only using them for media storage where quiet running is preferred, and not as a boot or OS drive.

These disks are at the moment performing grand. Will not get full speed out of them as they are connected to a sata raid card. But considering that bottleneck they are coping fine

2 Stück der Western Digital WD15EARX Green arbeiten seit rund 3 Monaten in meinem Synology-NAS. Auswahlkriterien waren: - geringer Stromverbrauch (immerhin kosten 2 durchgängig laufende Platten mit nur 5 Watt Mehrverbrauch gegenüber einem Sparmodell schlanke 12 EUR zusätzlich pro Jahr: es lohnt sich also, auf sparsame Platten zu achten) - geringer Lärmpegel: ich möchte in meinem Büro außer Keyboard und gelegentlichem Radio eigentlich nichts anderes hören, Seit rd. 3 Monaten laufen die Platten laut Synology-Protokoll rd. 12h pro Tag (Restzeit: Standby, automatisch von der Diskstation festgelegt) und fressen dabei täglich die Backups meiner PCs bzw. liefert Filme an den Fernseher aus. Die Laufgeräusche sind vernachlässigbar: ich nehme nur das regelmäßige Anlaufen der Platten wahr, wenn ein Laufwerkszugriff eines PCs die Platten aus dem Stromsparmodus weckt. Das passiert geschätzte 20x pro Tag, die Platten haben also schon einige Starts hinter sich, ohne dass Probleme aufgetreten sind. Fazit: gerne wieder.
