This privacy screen works really well for our patio. It provides good shade and privacy while still allowing some airflow through. The material feels durable, and the neutral color looks nice outdoors. It was easy to put up and gives us much more privacy. Very happy with it!

UPDATE 1/11/14: I have had this sun shade fabric installed as sun shades for my windows for over 2 years now. I have single pane windows that I cannot afford to replace with more efficient windows. Analysis of this project demonstrated a 40% decrease in energy usage *on average* in the past two years. In the summer months, I have had a decrease of 20 kw per day usage. Most summer months I averaged 47 kw per day before the installation. After the installation, the monthly energy usage has been a high of 27 kw per day (most months are lower in actual usage). The fabric is in excellent condition that only needs a light dusting occasionally. You can see out of the fabric in the day time. At night, if I have the living room lights on, you can see outlines and movement in the house. (ORIGINAL REVIEW) I debated a very long time on whether to purchase this fabric. I have no idea why I waited so long...but this was a huge mistake to wait. I built solar shades for my windows. Let me explain. I built frames in 1 x 2 inch cedar wood and stapled the fabric to the back. This gave the frame added stability and some depth. I originally intended to mount these shades externally on my single pane windows. The fabric and cedar frame were so pretty; I used them as a feature on an internal mount against the window. The amount of light coming through the fabric was surprising given the amount of heat that it kept out. I have received my first electric bill since mounting the shades. The shades were up for 21 of the 30 days on the bill and I still saved $40 compared to same time last year. Also, this billing period was 3 degrees hotter on average than last year. So, a 20% electric reduction for that cycle. Since then, I finished mounting the last solar shades on two east facing picture windows. I even mounted a double layer of fabric over the windows in my front and rear doors using mounting tape. I do have matchstick blinds on the door as an aestetic cover that is complemented by the fabric's color and texture. While the door's windows are blocked from viewing, the heat is completely blocked. The fabric is easy to handle and cut with regular scissors. The staples 'gripped' the fabric well when stetching and mounting. The fabric on the door's windows has curled a bit on the one edge that is not secured. If I had put a hem and lightly ironed that finished edge, it would no longer curl. I highly recommend this product. As a matter of fact, I plan to make a solar canopy to attach to a small deck area that is on the drawing board. Meanwhile, I keep telling everyone who gripes about their electric bill about this fabric. Here in Central Florida it has been a very brutal summer. These solar panels will pay for themselves in two billing cycles of my electric bill; that includes the cost of wood, fabric and hardware. For me, that is a huge win!

So it took me a while to figure out exactly how I wanted to use this so I’ve been sitting on the roll of fabric for over a year now and finally had an “a-ha” moment! We just had our pool redone with new decking and fencing. We’ve always had an outdoor shower area but this year I needed to build one that was temporary and did not want to drill or nail anything into the new wood panels we just put in. So I remembered that I had this awesome sunshade fabric stored away in the shed. Pulled it out and it saw it was perfect for making durable, outdoor shower curtains/ privacy panels for my temporary shower. It was so easy to use and I can’t believe I didn’t think of this use before! These panels I made will definitely hold up and I’m sure I’ll be able to reuse them for next years shower as well. Here’s how I modified the fabric to make the shower curtains / privacy panels. 1) measured off two pieces per my specific needs, cut 2) made a no-sew hem line on the raw edges I would be using as the “top” of the curtain/ panel using fabric fusion glue. Folded over for an approximate 1/2” hem, applied glue working in small sections, using a Fabric / quilting clip to hold into place while drying. The sides were already seemed as I cut them to turn out that way. Let dry overnight and removed clips the next day. The fabric fusion did an excellent job adhering creating a faux hem. Very happy with how that turned out. I was a little worried because the sunshade fabric is a a lot thicker and more coarse than normal fabric but my fears were unfounded. 3) attached the panels to my diy pvc shower rod using the metal curtain clips. The kind that you can slip on the rod and then has a clip where you can attach it where you want to. I decided on this method as I didn’t want to weaken the sunshade by putting holes in it for traditional curtain shower rings. Plus I could manipulate it after the fact if I didn’t like how it looked. Also it was just easier and took less time. I slipped the curtain clips on first and then hung up my sunshade shower curtain/ privacy panels where I wanted them. Easy peasy! They look way better than those cheap plastic shower curtains I usually use plus they’ll last so much longer. The plastic ones usually end up tearing or ripping in a rain storm and I have no fear that will happen. If they last the swim season I’ll be perfectly happy with that! * once I got them up I decided not to hem the bottom of the sunshade fabric. I had originally thought that I would need to add some weight of some sort to keep them from blowing around but they are perfectly fine as is and in my opinion and experience creating an outdoor pool shower for the last 12 years, this fabric will be heavy enough to sustain itself and doesn’t need anything to help it stay in place. We haven’t had a good storm yet so I can’t be 100% certain but my experience tells me they’ll be just fine. I also thought the raw cut edges would bother me (think OCD) but surprisingly it actually adds to the charm of an outdoor shower. I’ll definitely be purchasing more of this when the time comes to replace the ones I made. Please see my pictures for more explanation as to how I used the fabric.

I have used this product before as a wind barrier in the hot Colorado sun. It is still going strong after about 10 years! I bought another roll, and it is a great product, however it was only 98 feet long. It was supposed to be 100 feet.

Easy to work with. Worth the cost. One package of 6x50 was sufficient to shade my pool from the hot Texas sun that scorches my back yard from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm. I was able to get two 25' panels out of one roll of 6x50 roll which stretches across my 16x26 pool. I purchased thick 25' tent rods, closet rod base brackets, 1/2" PVC pipe, and heavy duty snaps to make a double canopy to cover my pool. It is very durable and stands up to the wind. Please note...manufacture suggests not using for pools due to chlorine incompatibility. But I figure...if I have to reconstruct the canvas each year at $114.00 a bolt, it's worth it for the 90% UV filter rating and huge cost savings of other products out there that did not work for this purpose. It looks refined and great with my deck gray color scheme as well. My pool water temperature is now reading a cool 85 degrees.

Excellent product and such a great price. I knew about this shade fabric from seeing used in greenhouses and nurseries. It can be pretty expensive, especially if you are looking to purchase a ready made product from it. The width and length that this company offered of the shade fabric was a godsend! I made wide and deep curtains for a large deck that has a roof but faces due west. In our Midwest hot, humid summers this was a huge hit. Very easy to sew on, easy to look through but very protective of those of us on the other side of it! Allows my friends and I to sit outside during the hot afternoon and the glaring sunlight of sunset and enjoy the view at the same being kept cool and protected. I used curtain weights to make it heavy enough to not blow around from a southern breeze, and used 3" webbing (like on a tie down for a trailer or truck) on all four sides to prevent any fraying of the fabric. Works great and hundreds of dollars cheaper than buying a similar product ready made. I was afraid that it would be practical but not very attractive, but the tan color is actually pretty nice and I used a contrasting webbing. I can't wait to back out on that deck again this summer!

AWESOME STUFF!!! Unbelievable how much heat it blocks from the sun. Follow directions and leave a 4 to 6 inch minimum air gap. Do not place it directly over windows or directly over any kind of metal it will make it hotter.

Does what it says it will do. With temperatures rising around the country I think Coolaroo's solar mesh is a must to have. If you don't mind having your rooms darkened it's worth it. Make them removable for when the weather cools to let the sun back in. I had a spot in my living room where no matter what window covering I used, a small ray of afternoon sun would get through and blind me while watching TV. I designed an external shade that covered the top of my picture window and problem solved! There is a notable difference between interior window coverings and exterior coverings. The latter actually prevents the sun's heat from entering your home vs interior coverings. I noticed that I used my AC less often. As an alternative, I also recommend replacing your window screens with Solar Guard screens. It's more work and more expensive but worth it if you can afford it and know how to re-screen yourself. As for Coolaroo, there are many creative ways to install it on the outside of your home. I suggest watching youtube tutorials and getting creative with your own house. If you'll be removing it after the summer season, I wouldn't worry about it looking perfect.

Bought 3 of these to go under the perspex roof of our pergola for extra shade.they are doing the job so far. Took a bit of time to fit them as I needed to cut the lenght before I added the grommets to hold them up on hooks . I wanted them to be easy to remove if needed,sounds complicated what I did but it was the way I wanted them and worth it.
