Holy Moly!
I haven't had a chance to use these yet so I can't vouch for how they perform, but I literally just pulled them out of the Amazon shipping box, and man are these things solid as hell. I read a previous review that indicated you could use these as a weapon and then continue to make hobo pies, and I'm here to assure you that this is fact. As soon as I pulled this out of the box I could tell they were worth the money I paid just in the weight and construction. I was reluctant to spend the higher price on this product as there are alternatives in the Amazon store, but I've owned those ones before and I was looking for something new. I am a firm believer in the fact that if you buy something that is of higher quality at a higher price, you will get more from it in the long run. I have no doubt that I was right in my thinking this time around. The company saw that I had placed two separate orders and wrote to me directly to ensure that I hadn't made a mistake before they shipped which was refreshing and very respectable on their part. I think that my family is really going to enjoy these for many years to come. I'm not being asked to write this review and I'm not being paid either. I shop the hell out of things when I make a purchase and I did the same for these cookers. That being said, I have no regrets as I feel that these are of excellent quality. I will be ordering from this company again.

Built to last
My grandson and I had the best time making pies while camping last weekend! We used a metal firepit since the campground didn't allow fires on the ground. Good thing we used it because it had a perfect grilling top where we set the pie irons and didn't have to hold them. We made pizza pockets and cherry pies with icing! It was the first time for both of us ever using or even seeing a pie iron in use. I had a little trouble when seasoning them as I used too much oil and it made lumps on the surface. Not to worry - I discovered I could sand them a bit and keep heating them on a BBQ grill. They finally rectified & I expect many years of use from these delightful pie irons! Oh - I was so excited about them that I made a few pies for my friends on a BBQ grill after we got home. Everyone loved them. I plan to make many BBQ grill pie iron dinners!

Works great
Lots of fun making our own fry pie, but made a mess when the butter ran all over our fire pit.

Don't camp without it!!
If you've ever used a pie-iron, you know most are round. Try using this square one. So much easier to use because it will fit standard square sandwich bread. Although I should mention that I would recommend cutting off the edges of your bread to ensure perfect fit. The edges of this pie-iron crimp the bread together perfectly for a great sandwich. Palmer seem to do a really good job with the build on this! I've used it many times on our fire pit, and camp fire and have had no issues. Not sure if it was pre-conditioned, but the bread seemed to slip off easier than the other pie-irons I use. So my attempts to condition it were effortless. Anyhow, it's great to use for camping too and would highly recommend.

Really, not worth it
These cast irons are not worth the price. The cast iron itself is fine, but that’s about where the quality ends. I bought four of these for family camping trips, and we’ve only used them four times. They were not preseasoned, and apparently, they had some oil or wax on them from the factory. They still arrived rusted, but I cleaned them and seasoned the cast iron several times (I’m not new to this process). The handles are not attached well, so when you try to turn out the cooked item, the handle just rotates, and the iron doesn’t. I ended up putting high-temp adhesive on three of the four irons, but the last time was the final straw. When I was turning out the pie of the fourth, the handle came out, letting loose the hot rod. I bought these cast irons because of the “made in USA” and “they’re the last ones you’ll ever need” comments. I wouldn’t bother with them. They’re significantly overpriced with slow shipping. The casting is great, but the rest is quite poor.

100% AMERICAN MADE....GREAT PRODUCT
This is the only cast iron sandwich maker, or, as we call them, mountain pie iron, you will find that is 100% made in America. I did quite a bit of research and some others are assembled in America. Don't be fooled. The casting is flawless as is the construction. Everything about this product screams perfection. The wood for the handles come from Maine. Even the little hook to hold the handles together are made in the USA!!! The company that makes these in Pennsylvania, C Palmer Manufacturing Company, is run by the granddaughter of the founder. I would not hesitate to purchase these again.

The Best
Very nice sandwich irons. I have used many over the last 20 years with Scouts and kids. These are the best - heavy duty and solid, has the crimp edge to seal your sandwich or pie. The retainer to hold the sandwich maker closed is at the end of the handle attached to the wooden knobs, this eliminates burnt little fingers. You get what you pay for and you will only have to buy these once! Made in America.
