I started a beginner conversational Italian course six months ago and was recommended this book by another member of the group. This is so helpful I am referring to it all the time. Particularly useful is the middle third with the conjugation of the verbs set out so clearly. I've also used the reference section a lot right at the front to explain so many terms of language I am hearing on my course and which I didn't learn in English at school (over 40 years ago!). Best reference book for anyone from beginner like me to those with more advanced language skills like the person who recommended it to me.

I was already familiar with Collin's Italian Grammar and even as it was good for a beginner,as a grammar book I would have liked it to be so comprehensive as to be useful after the initial years. But this book in its combination of grammar, verbs and vocabulary is everything you'll need to kickstart your Italian. Yes, the grammar is basic. But the verb tables and the extra verb index is very helpful. The vocabulary has masculine and feminine nouns in separate pages which makes it easier to learn; in addition it has 40 pages of supplementary vocabulary arranged according to parts of speech (great to augment your reading vocabulary). The grammar points are very succinctly explained. So if you're just starting with your Italian, get this book. Pair it with a coursebook or classroom, and it's of great help. If you're beginning with Italian in school, this book is all you need before an exam.
