The way the question is worded, it appears you have two or more of the wi-fi units and are wondering if each one needs the holder stand bracket. The short answer is yes, but it depends. I have three but only two needed to be on the wall socket so I bought two. I did find the holder stand to be convenient and safer for the unit itself.

No, it is part of a mesh system. One of the units needs to be plugged into the modem/router for internet access. The other units can be placed around your house/apartment to provide better signal everywhere.
