can i use this on a wood surface

Use Golden GAC 100, it’s a specific sizing that works best on wood panels if used first before priming with gesso. Gesso often isn’t enough to protect the wood because cellulose and wood are hygroscopic. They can absorb and lose atmospheric moisture through the other side of the panel, which can cause warping and degradation over time. Coat the front AND back of a smooth wood panel with 2 thin coats, let it dry in between, then prep the front with your regular primer as usual.
