Do you have to clean each time you change between colors?

I only use it to do cupcakes, and keep it to a single color. I would imagine you would have to clean in between colors to keep colors pure and that would be quite a hassle. Notice the pictures really only depict a single color application.

Is this durable enough for buttercream icing?

Absolutely! Most durable item that i have bought for my wife. She uses it for many things besides icing. Stuffing pasta shells is great!

Is the lever used to push plunger plastic or metal? My plastic one tends to break often.

I have had 3 of these, and they all eventually broke because of that part being plastic.
