This appears to be one of the few options to adapt a Garmin 17mm ball mount (male), to a 25mm (1 inch) ball mount (male). This Arkon 17mm socket fits on the Garmin (or other) 17mm ball, typical on many GPS, sports camera, and cell phone mounts. The socket has a removeable tightening ring, that fits over the 17mm ball, and then once the socket is snapped on to the ball, tightens the socket in place to prevent the socket from rotating on the ball, holding whatever you attach to it securely in place. In my situation I was looking to adapt a Garmin friction dash mount with a 17mm ball to a standard 1 inch RAM ball so I could use the dash mount to hold some of the other GPS units, or Sirius radio base that have 1 inch mounting balls attached. To accomplish this conversion you will also need a 1 inch ball mount with a female 1/4"-20 threaded insert. I found a few options on Amazon, some with just the female threaded insert, some with a removeable male setscrew in 1/4"-20 thread that once removed left the 1/4"-20 female insert, giving me the option of using this fitting for other purposes if desired. This particular one on Amazon ( https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09YH69CTM?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 ) was the least expensive, and of perfectly good quality for my purposes. It did not describe the threaded insert as removable, but was identical in description to a few others being sold on Amazon that showed the insert having a hex key socket, so I took a chance and ordered it. The threaded insert came out easily with a hex wrench, as shown in the photos, allowing the ball to then be screwed onto the Arkon socket, making a relatively short 17mm to 1inch adapter. this allows me to attach any desired length of 1inch socket arms to my new adapter and utilize all my existing 1inch mounts with the 17mm friction dash mount. This 17mm socket is only made of plastic or phenolic resin, so some care should be used in how much torque is applied when tightening, but hopefully it will last with a bit of care. I've also seen replacement screw collars sold separately if this should occur. Glad to have found this adapter to allow more use of some of my GPS accessories.

works great, using it to mount cell holder in my cars and with proper hardware it works great. Would like to see option with longer screw on it but still made it work
