If you make the homemade coasters with this Matte Finish variety, will it get sticky again if you place a mug of hot tea or soup on it?

yes, the hot cup sticks with the coaster. I have tried it with the matte mod podge, I was disappointed. Anyone has recommendations for a non sticky coating.

Will it work to make a plastic film mural look more like canvas after its been glued to a stretched canvas (give it the right texture and finish)?

I haven't done a project exactly like that, but I have glued napkins to wood flooring planks and it looks like the design has always been in the wood. As a guess only, I believe you will get the look you' are after with many coats Hope this helps. Good luck.
