How can it fit a 49'' driver if it's only 48 ''?

Remove the driver head which usually adds 1.0" - 1.5" to length of the shaft. :-))

Will this case fit in a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid?

Cant say about a Fusion but I did manage to squeeze a Ford Explorer in for a trip to India. Hope this helps.
