Is the elego uno the same as arduino uno? Is there any difference in the chips and the system? Is the color the only difference?

The unit I recieved functions identically to the Arduino.Same chip. All Arduino library sketches run fine on it.I was very very pleased with this kit. I highly recommend it.

My 15 yr old is into sound, motors and magnets and wants to take over the world. Is this the best kit out there?

It's a good set if he wants to learn the foundations for programming Arduino - he could use that knowledge later if he will build some more serious digital sound hardware or robotic applications and depending on his career choice later, it could be something valuable to "play with" now. I can't promise taking over the world though :)

Is soldering required ?

I needed to solder my RFID/NFC module. The pins did not come pre soldered.Everything else was fine though.

What type of LED lights are in this kit?

I purchased the kit as a gift to my grandson ( to spark his interest in electronics), so I’ve never seen the LED’s in action. I can say that did look over all the parts and can say that they seem to be standard multi color visible light LED’s. These LED’s would require a dropping resistor if connected to any power source with an operating voltage of more than just a couple of volts.
