What is the difference between “filter set + filter set” and “modern”

Amazon should remove those confusing options. I ordered the "filter set + filter set" and much to my dislike, received one filter set for the 300/300s and one filter set for the 400/400s. Very few people would want to buy both 300 and 400 filters and only at a $0.16 combo discount. Much more people would be interested in buying two 400 filter sets at an even modest discount.

Two filters (one for each side of the 400s).

Does the Airmega 400S filer out pet hair and dander?

The pre-filter does a great job of catching the hair/fur. Have to vacuum it off frequently, depending on amount of hair/fur that is shed.

How often do you have to replace filters?

It will depend on how dirty the environment is where you run your Airmega. Vacuuming off your prefilter screen and front of your filter every couple of weeks should prolong its life, and you can generally treat the replacement light as only an advisory. The more time your unit runs at higher speeds, the faster it will turn red. My environment isn't too dirty, so I generally reset my filter light and consider replacement after the 2nd time it goes red. If you notice that it isn't passing as much air as usual, then it's surely time for a replacement. In my house, I'd say that's around 9 months or so.
