I wrap a strip of this around the top of pots to prevent slugs getting at the plants in the pots. It's easy to cut with scissors - though you do get a lot of tiny bits of copper mesh which you need to watch out for, so I'd advise cutting it on a piece of paper to catch the bits. I wrapped it round the pot and allowed enough of an overlap of the ends to twist the two ends together to keep it tight (ish) and in place. Since applying it to a number of pots containing sprouting dahlias, I've had no further slug damage to plants.
