I am confused as to how the crabs are captured in this trap? Can someone explain it?

When you submerge the trap and it hits the bottom the sides open; when you pull the trap back up the sides close.

Are the steel pieces on this trap galvanized?

I am not sure. However, it lasts for years without being rusted. It looks like good black paint.

What size is the mesh on this trap? I'm looking for 1 1/2" square mesh
