Nickel Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings NB1253, 12-53

There was a discussion about strings on an acoustic guitar forum and some "recommended" (strongly suggested) trying these strings. I searched the interwebs (YouTube) to see what reviewers said about them. There were several reviews, often comparing the sound of these against other strings. In all the reviews the results were similar. I thought the NB's improved the sound of each instrument. In my case, I have a Taylor 614CE that I was looking to tweak the sound a bit on. I was having a bit of buyer's remorse because I really loved the bass response of the 814ce, but OTOH the 814 sometimes sounded muddy to my ear. The 914 is a $5k guitar and out of what I'm willing to spend. I was just about ready to sell the 614 to look for something else when I tried the D'Addario NB's... and WOW! The NB's brought this guitar to life and did everything that this particular (614) guitar needed to sound amazing. The bass tightened up and projected and balanced out the mids and highs. If you know anything about Taylor, their guitars can be BRIGHT. The 614 being a maple body and sides needed some taming. The NB's help retain the shimmer but tamp down the "ice pick" highs that some Taylors are prone to. To be fair, I've had a set of them on my '81 MIJ Epiphone PR-755s for a week. They're pretty good on that guitar, but interestingly, THIS guitar's sound is not as balanced with the NB's as it is with a fresh set of Martin Marquis. Bottom line: You're going to have to try them for yourself. They're pricier than other sets so you have to be the judge. So far I haven't found anything that sounds as good on my Taylor, and I've tried *a lot* of different strings on it. They're cheaper than Elixirs and (for me) last just as long (I don't like Elixirs either after 2 weeks). I'm finding, for my taste, the NB's retain their sound up to and perhaps past 4 week, but I feel lose some of the extra projection at 3 weeks. Again, you just gotta try 'em to find out.

Absolutely easy on the old digits and sound clear down to every note ! Not bad at all , let's get to playing and we will see how they last , I am pretty positive they will hold up for quite a while !

I tried two different 92-8 phosphor bronze strings on my new Taylor 517 Gold Label and the d or g strings were too overpowering when chording. After I put these nickel ones on, it was heavenly.

Only strings I’ll play now. Played Phosphor Bronze all my life but my Larrivee OM didn’t respond to them as well and they go dull in no time. Thought my acoustic was just not that great. Tried Nickel and was OK but then tried these. Will only play going forward. Incredible time and volume.

These strings sound harsh after installation, but they even out and sound quite even and clear after some playing--and hold up a good long time. I wouldn't recommend them for immediate use in stage or studio as they don't sound good at first, but if you want one good set of strings that will last for a while with good tone and even intonation, I think they're a good buy. I don't put them on all my guitars, and don't put them on if there's a gig or recording session coming up immediately--but they're great on my main J-45 when I know I'm going to be playing it a lot. I've had my last set for 8 months and am only changing them now. I'm using the light set, but I'm going to try a custom light set on another guitar just to see how they feel.

These sound great on mahogany top guitars and are my favorite strings for them, and mahogany guitars are my jam. The martin retro monel strings are very similar, but maybe have a bit more depth of sound in the low end, however, the Martins seem to die after a month or 6 weeks. I mean the 5th and 6th strings start to sound muddy and muted and lose their resonance. These are very close to that sound, but last a long time. They don't sound worse, they're almost identical to the martin monel but seemingly keep their sound/tone/everything for a long time. They also don't corrode even though they're uncoated, and are somewhere between coated and uncoated phosphor bronze strings in terms of stickiness/smoothness. I also really like them on some spruce top guitars, in particular a taylor 314ce. but one of my very old spruce dreadnoughts sounds wrong with them, an old yamaha. I also have them on a cedar top seagull and I disliked them at first, buy I think are sounding better after a week or so. Not sure about that one. I say they're made for and really enhance mahogany guitars. They sound so great on both of my mahogany guitars, a taylor gs mini and an all solid alvarez, and I will buy them for as long as daddario makes them for those guitars. People will ask you why you have electric strings on an acoustic guitar, because they're silver (nickel) in color instead of bronze.

Great sound on my Loar archtop. Not as loud as the more expensive 1/2 wounds but great tone and even with my sloppy chording they don't squeak!

These are nice, soft strings. I love how they sound. It’s my preferred string for sure, get to rocking ..

I put this set on my Pratley SL-MM. it’s already an incredible instrument but these strings are surprisingly good, the sustain and projection they add to my Pratley is beyond my expectation. They are on the bright side but absolutely amazing. They may mellow as they settle in but they are beautiful right off the bat. Worth the price. I am ordering a couple more sets. I play every day and 4 weeks is average life for strings either my style of playing

Per la mia acustica ho sempre utilizzato corde Phosphor Bronze, e mi son sempre trovato bene, anche se la durata non era il massimo, nonostante non suono per professione e ho un uso limitato al semplice hobby. Per questo ho provato le elixir, ed effettivamente la durata è tanta roba, ed anche il suono non è male, ma c'era qualcosa che non mi convinceva al 100% nel feeling e nel suono, così dopo aver visto un video su YouTube dove venivano recensite le varie corde per acustica ho voluto provare queste Nickel Bronze, che promettono di restituire il suono naturale della chitarra senza snaturarlo, e devo dire che sono davvero molto belle! Hanno un suono davvero più naturale, o per lo meno diverso rispetto a come ero abituato a sentire dalla mia chitarra (e a parer mio personale molto più bello) e hanno anche una durata molto buona. E premetto che le mie chitarre sono tutte appese al muro senza custodia, quindi questo lascia intuire la bontà di queste corde, che difficilmente cambierò. L'unica cosa che non mi piace è il colore, identico a quello delle corde per elettrica, quindi non dorato, e fa un po' strano alla vista, ma per quello che offrono sinceramente ci passo sopra tranquillamente.

I tried these on several guitars and the result was mixed. On a couple of cheaper guitars the Nickel Bronze strings were awful, but on my higher end Yairi mahogany the Nickel Bronze sounds amazing and far better than the PB or 80/20s. On the right guitar they really bring out the best in the guitar.
