The instructions are good and cutting the slot for the filter in the housing was fairly easy with a utility knife. When removing the plastic kick panel to access the cabin filter slot remember to leave the third screw above the transmission tunnel in the housing as per the instructions, as once you get this screw out you wont be able to put it back in. i learned this the hard way and wasted a lot of time trying to put it back in when reinstalling the kick panel.

I have a 2013 Tahoe that suffers from the dreaded disgusting air conditioning smell when you first turn it on. It has been to the dealer countless times for their "treatment quote that only last a short time. I now have begun using Kilma-Cleaner and happen to run across this filter retrofit kit. The instructions provided were clear and easy to follow, especially for someone who is mechanically inclined. It should also be an easy task for those who are not. After the installation was complete, the airflow out of the vents was just barely reduced; a trade off that I'm willing to take if it will help with the constant older problems and filters the air in the same process. I should also note that all the times I have taken my vehicle to the dealer for their "treatment/disinfectant " clearly did nothing. Once I remove the bottom of the HVAC box as directed by the instructions, but evaporator core was absolutely disgusting with black solid mold. Are used a pump up sprayer with 100% bleach solution and soaked the evaporator with about 2 gallons of solution. I rinsed out the sprayer and refilled with clean distilled water. I pump the sprayer up with as much pressure as I could possibly get in it and pretty much blew all of the crap off of the evaporator core. Following that, I use the water hose and used a jet nozzle to finish it off. The end result was a perfectly clean evaporator core. The filter installation took a few moments and everything was put back together shortly there after. The airflow as I mentioned was just ever so slightly reduce. On the maximum fan speed setting, with the filter in, it is slightly reduced as if the fan speed was a one click back. Roughly a 10% reduction. A positive side of that is the are exiting the vents is significantly cooler. Overall, I am hoping this will eliminate the problem of the air-conditioning system smelling like the angel of death after sitting overnight. Only time will tell. I will most likely change the filter at least every six months. Also another benefit to the added filter is the air is cleaned inside the cabin. I have two children who are both severely allergic to pollen and other seasonal allergens. I am certain this will help.

I have a 2012 Silverado which I had since new. It did not come with a cabin air filter from the factory but I always wanted to install one. Well my blower motor fail last week. Since I had to remove the cover under the dash to replace the blower motor I decided to finally do the mod and install a cabin air filter. so I ordered Dorman 259-201 Cabin Air Filter Retrofit Kit. The kit comes with everything you need to add the filter. It is not easy cutting out the access plate where the filter goes. It is not thin plastic you are cutting thru. Have patience and take your time .I used a sharp razor utility knife and kept scoring one area till I made penetration thru the plastic. Then I use a mini pneumatic hack saw to cut it out. Be very careful not to over cut or damage the surrounding plastic. Everything went well and the Dorman kit is top notch and the filter is high quality. Unfortunately after adding the cabin air filter to my truck I found that is does reduce the A/C airflow coming from my vents. It is not a big reduction but enough for me to notice. I really wanted to have a cabin air filter in my truck but living in Florida I need max air flow from my A/C system. Sad to say I will be removing the filter.
