can it be used for astronomy?

Although it's good for moon-gazing it's not a good product for astronomy.

Can we take pictures through it?

Yes I was able to take few pictures through it with my iPhone. I got an attachment which holds my iPhone onto one of the eyepieces. You can easily find those attachments on Amazon, there are many. However the solution is a bit flimsy, you have to fiddle around with it till you properly align the iPhone camera with the eyepiece and you need to make sure you have the binocular on a sturdy tripod to avoid any movement or shaking. Without a tripod, trying to hold everything by hand will shake a lot and most photos will be out of focus. Hope this helps.
