Does it have to be applied to the front or the back of the puzzle and does it glue the puzzle together so it can be hung up

You apply it to the front of the puzzle. It holds the puzzle together so that you can hang it up but I recommend putting a piece of cardboard behind the puzzle because the glue will seep between the pieces.

Is this specifically for Ravensburger puzzles? Or could I use it for other types of puzzles?

It's intended for use with any cardboard puzzle

How is this different than using regular spray adhesive?

It has a sponge applicator and goes on very easily. It dries clear. One bottle covers about four 1,000 piece puzzles. I love this product! I've never used a spray adhesive, though.
