What's the difference between 20 versus 40 volume?

The Volume of Developer you use depends on multiple things. Deciding what Volume to use depends on the hair you are applying it to. Things like has it been colored, lightened or chemically treated  before? What level is the current hair and what level are you trying to achieve? If there is gray hair we are trying to cover? If you are trying to lift with color on natural hair how many level are you trying to lift? As you see its not a simple answer and depends on many things.

The difference between 20 Volume and 40 Volume is that 40 Volume is for extreme changes to the hair. 20 Volume is used for 100% gray coverage with Wella Color Charm Permanent Hair Color. There are many other differences however, this is the easiest way to understand the basics.

Will lightening my dark brown roots with 20 vol with an ash brown toner lighten my hair or does it have to be blonde?

Using our Wella Color Charm Developer 20 volume combined with a Toner will not lighten the hair. Toners are used to tone out at the same level of hair unwanted tones. They do not lighten or darken hair only change the tonal value of shade.

Can you use this with any brand powder lightener? I have a bucket of loreal quick blue and want to be sure i can use them together. .
