Should have gotten this a long time ago!
2012 Silverado Z71 Crew Cab 5.3L My new SIlverado seemed to "stutter" a little bit when accelerating. I eventually got used to it, assuming that's the way the new trucks drove. (I previously owned a '03 Silverado) Being an avid Amazon shopper I recently stumbled upon the K&N 63 Series AirCharger. After reading all the reviews and pondering spending about $240 for a few days, I broke down and bought it. SHIPPING: Fast as Always (Prime). The box came undamaged, but there were a lot of loose, tiny pieces of hardware at the bottom of the box (washers, nuts) However, this did not end up causing any problems. INSTALL: I have never really done much mechanic work other than on small Briggs & Stratton engines, but I found the installation to be pretty straight forward. When you remove the stock intake and first see the new K&N, you realize how bulky/ugly the stock intake really is. I used the directions that came with the Intake, as well as a YouTube video during the install. I took a few breaks during the installation, but I would say the complete install took me about 2 1/2 hours. It does require some drilling, but only a little. I found the whole installation process to be relatively easy, yet slightly time consuming. PERFORMANCE: Wow! The new intake looks GREAT. It really "cleans up" under the hood. I couldn't wait to take it for a spin! When at idle, I didn't notice any difference in sound (when sitting in the drivers seat). But, when I took off down the road, I knew I had made a good purchase. Not only does the engine respond quicker when accelerating, but it sounds amazing! It feels like it breathes SO much better, and it has a great "growl" between 30-50 mph. I didn't know my truck could sound like this. I originally bought the intake for improved acceleration (which exceeded my expectations), but the new engine sound was the cherry on top! (its not an annoying sound at all) I love cruising around town with a truck that sounds better, has more power, and might possibly have better fuel economy (haven't tested it yet) OVERALL: If you are considering purchasing this intake, and don't mind spending money on increasing the performance of your vehicle, DO IT! I'm glad I did.

Great sound
Installation was easy made my truck sound more aggressive and made my gas pedal more sensitive

Love K&N
Great product. Wish it was louder under the hood. I imagine the metal tube with open box would do this but great product nonetheless.

Impressed!
I never write reviews for anything, but after installing this intake on my 2011 Silverado 1/2 ton 5.3L, I had to say something. This is a great product! Once installed it felt like the OEM intake was starving my engine of air. For lack of a better term, this intake allows the engine to breathe! Instant noticeable horsepower, torque and fuel economy improvement. I installed this intake just before I hauled my family, a 3500lb camper trailer and everything I could load into both of them to the Black Hills of SD. My truck pulled everything like a dream through the hills!! I installed the unit myself and it took a couple of hours. My only comment regarding installation is: If you can change your own oil, install your own battery, and maybe perform brake jobs, then this is a piece of cake. If not...then pay someone else to do it. You need more tools than the instructions tell you are needed. The instructions were ok, but identifying which nuts, bolts and washers go where took some time and some knowhow. All in all...very pleased!!

Missing item
It is missing the air filter which itself cost 60 dollars and the box said everything will come with but it’s missing the vital piece and I expect that piece to come or I return it

Great upgrade.
I bought this a few weeks ago. I shared a image above of it on my 2009 Silverado 4.8L. Pro's: Easy installation. Noticeable sound change under the hood and from the exhaust. More powerful and muscular to say the least. Much cheaper purchasing from Amazon vs local stores. Easy to follow instruction, fast delivery. Con's: You have to drill a hole to secure the heat shield. I don't really like to drill holes in my vehicles. It wont stop you from installing it if you choose not to. The heat shield wall goes in place with and L bracket and uses the existing molded inserts, so the drilling in my opinion is optional. Not sure if the MPG will change or not, depends on how I drive I guess. But I did notice a improved throttle response and power increase. In my opinion worth the money. All trucks and performance cars should come like this. ***Update*** I have had this installed for over a year now and I can report it does improve fuel economy on the highway especially. I havent had any issues. On one of my last decent 300 mile each way trips I averaged around 22 mpg at average 75 to 85 mph cruise control speed. Barely going over 2100 rpm at that rate. So it does help and worth the money in my opinion still.

UPDATE TO 'Can't recommend it'
Put this on a 2010 Chevy Av LTZ last fall with the Amazon buy-it-together kit of the Airaid 200-617 PowerAid Throttle Body Spacer and the JET 69125 Powr-Flo Mass Air Sensor. Installation takes about an hour if you have some ability and the right tools. So far, after running this for 6 months or so, gas mileage has dropped 1/2 to 1 mpg. This would be bad enough, but there seems to be a noticeable response lag between giving the engine gas after you have let up on the accelerator. Starting the engine is noticeably less smooth. I have tried the 3 items in different combinations and the constant is the K&N Cold Air setup. I had one on a 2002 Av that I absolutely loved. Maybe the 8 to 4 cylinder on-off gas saving design has something to do with it. I haven't talked to K&N about it yet (I plan on it) but I may have to go back to the stock air intake and keep the Airaid 200-617 PowerAid Throttle Body Spacer & JET 69125 Powr-Flo Mass Air Sensor setup. Those items, esp. the throttle body spacer, work as advertised. UPDATE: Was messing around with this again and the truck was running better. Then I cleaned the air filter and oiled it for the first time. The extra resistance to the air flow must have helped because the truck runs a lot better, more like my old Av. Can't say it improved gas mileage any more though. I did put the throttle body spacer back on and that thing is a blast! Again, no savings on gas that I can see, but man does the truck respond when you mash the accelerator down! I upped my rating from 2 to 4 stars. One word of caution though.... a lot of manufacturers do not recommend oiled filters (messes up the MAF sensor). I may post again in the furure and let you know what I find out there. I also traded e-mails with an Eng from K&N. They didn't mention the oil vs. no oil data I obtained.

2010 Silverado 5.3 L
I was very satified with the K&N 63-3070. Amazon had the best price and installation was a breeze. The only items missing from the kit were 2 Ny-Lok nuts. All the bolts and screws are SS but the washers (flat and locking) and the nuts were zinc plated. So this gave me the opportunity to go the hardware store and replace all the zinc hardware for SS for about $4.00. The unit fit perfectly and looks excellent - it really cleans up the engine compartment. The engine runs and idles smoother and feels more peppy. It has a nice throaty sound when accelerating which I have a tendency to do more now so needless to say I have not checked gas mileage. I had preveiously installed a Magnaflow dual outlet 30" muffler which also sounds great yet quiet when cruising. I recommend watching the installation video on the K&N product web site. This was extremely helpful.
