I had an Acer TC-885 with a M2 SATA, 128GB used for the operating system.Cloned and installed this to increase the memory which was running low.Works great and because this is NVME there is a very noticeable shorter boot up time.Got the Gen 3 because the motherboard does not support Gen 4 (it would go backwards compatible to Gen 3) so saved a bit of money.

I'm trying to find out how SSDs behaves as they ages, building knowledge in advance of some sample testing at work.Although I bought the cheapest NVMe drive I could find with a recognisable name, this was fine and I've so far failed to kill it. Performance is fine (1200+ MB/s sequential write, 800+ MB/s random write) and after 5000 rewrites of the whole drive, it has yet to fail.After several lifetimes of normal usage over a month, performance has held up for normal PC use but wear levelling drops performance fairly quickly when hit by a 10GB or more of sequential write, or any random writing at all. However it's still nearly always 200MB/s+ even when under stress.This is a much better drive than I expected. I will continue to try to kill it in the name of building knowledge.

Using this as an SSD Cache for my TrueNAS Scale, benchmark results are on par with other SSDs of this performance bracket and I had no issues setting it up.Not sure on its gaming performance as my usage case is anything but gaming.Only niggle I had was that it came in a static bag free floating no hard protection, but it works fine and for the price certainly not complaining.

Bought this for £20 in 2023 and it does the job just as well in 2026, not super fast read speeds as u can imagine with pcie gen 3

By far the worst drive I have ever owned between HDDs and SSDs. It has caused me nothing but misery and pain in the 3-4 years I have owned it. I have had to wipe it clean a couple of times because the SLC cache gets so damn messed up the drive becomes unusable, read/write speeds degrage to a fraction of what they're supposed to be, Windows freezes up constantly when it's in a degraded state and frequently BSODs cause the storage controller is unresponsive.I've extensively discussed this with their support and they don't offer firmware upgrades or any other way to remediate. I was pointed to FreshSSD, some 3rd party software that I would have to keep running 24/7 in the background to manage TRIMs on their drive. Ironically I tried that out and FreshSSD does not read SMART data off this Patriot drive. What an absolute clown show.

Got this installed in an intel N100 Topton Mini PC alongside 32GB RAM for a power efficient Mini Homelab as i aim for efficiency these days.Power is really good with the system sipping a steady 9 Watts totalThats got a 2.5Gb Ethernet plugged in, the N100 running with various LXCs and VMs on top of Proxmox. This beats out the competition by a watt or two. Fast enough to run critical VMs to enable uptime as well and the IOPs aren't suffering to bad from it.
