The Language of Letting Go: Daily Meditations for Codependents (Hazelden Meditation Series) [Beattie, Melody] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Language of Letting Go: Daily Meditations for Codependents (Hazelden Meditation Series) Review: Singing ๐คI'm starting with the woman in the mirror - One of my great mentors recommended The Language of Letting Go by Melody Beattie and I chose to purchase both versions ( this one and the one with the yellow backing). There's motivation and encouragement with each day's wisdom. It seems to be right on track with my life each day. It helps me to be considerate of others and I like slowing down and enjoying life or "smelling the flowers"/"taking the scenic route" and getting to know others. I now am able to understand the world around me better and have more compassion and respect for the next person. Reading these books along with another one recommended to me by an amazing therapist of mine, Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab, have improved my mind and attitude in a gracious way. When people ask how I've changed I recommend them all. Review: Helpful & Insightful - I love the way Melody Beattie approaches the healing & recovery process, especially in regards to utilizing the 12 steps of Codependents Anonymous. It's important not to further traumatize, blame & shame victims of narcissistic abuse & domestic violence, and the other 12 step systems do just that. It's also incredibly important for survivors and recovering codependents to know that there are other ways of recovery & healing and that we have the freedom to choose our own higher power, healing journey, and spiritual path. When we've been abused emotionally, physically, psychologically, financially, and spiritually, many of us lost our sense of self, and now we're working on finding our authentic self and regaining our right to autonomy. Being told that there's only one way to heal can be a turn-off and pushes people away. I like how Melody gives recommendations and guides the reader to explore themselves when they're ready. I could go on, but I have a CoDA meeting to facilitate shortly, and I need to prepare.

A thoughtful, purposeful daily reader that really helps
I really love this book. It's a daily reader with wonderful, focused topics for each day and a nice meditation prayer at the end. It's been helpful to read each day and have the words rolling around in my head guiding me through the day. I'm a big fan of daily readers and this one is no exception.

Great book
I love the book . It was recommended by a support group I attend. It helps me to understand the very complex issues of being a mother of an addicted son and the art (yes) of letting go. It is a difficult road for any parent to have a child addicted to drugs . It's confusing and isolating to say the least . This book has helped me understand the meaning of "I'm not alone". Prior to reading this book ( and others) I believed my behaviors were mine only . Done out of not knowing what else to do . I am gaining insight that most parents of addicted children do pretty much the same thing and it isn't a flaw in character by being codependent to a child that u love with all ur heart. It shows you how to let go of destructive enabling and the fear of letting go .It also has helped me understand patterns of my childhood and how that has effected both of us and how I can't help save or live his life . It also helped me with the thoughts that instead of helping I have been helping my son stay sick. I am a work in progress in this recovery but I am grateful for the insight this book has provided I hope and pray my son recovers me too . With the help of this book I am hopeful when he does make that choose I can be there to accept him with all my heart and not with conditions .

life-changing
While whole books on codependency can be hard to process effectively all at once, this book and its sequel break down massive ideas like enmeshment into tiny chunks that are applied as simple principles day to day. It enables you to practice these ideas instead of just taking in a huge amount of overwhelming information about how you relate to others, if this is a way of relating that is an issue for you. I have used this book and the sequel as daily morning reads for over five years. I switch between books each year and reviewing the lessons in each one has helped me navigate significant life events like breakups, international moves and challenges at work and at home. If you struggle to let others do their own thing and to have an internal sense of autonomy regardless of how others act, I cannot recomment it enough.
