Excellent Pencils for Drawing
I love a nice pencil, and I also like to keep a minimal setup. I got 12 2B pencils because 2B is my main pencil for all kinds of drawing and sketching - I don't really need anything harder or softer most of the time because I don't do elaborate and fully shaded pencil drawings. I also have an HB, 4B, and 6B in the Hi-Uni line and, for me, Hi-Uni pencils feel the nicest to draw with compared to other brands. Hi-Uni pencils feel soft and smooth when drawing - I would say they draw a bit softer and darker than other brands I have tried, so perhaps try them out in a store if possible before committing to a 12-pack. I bought one pencil in 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, and 6B first to try them out before deciding the 2B is the pencil I can use most of the time for drawing. I have used Staedtler, Tombow, Faber Castell, and Blackwing for drawing, and normally I'll use Hi-Uni and/or Blackwing. I personally use my Hi-Uni 2B and Blackwing Matte as a carry-around 2 pencil sketching set. Sometimes I also use a Blackwing 602. Anyway, all of the pencils I mentioned above are great and I would have no complaints about using them, my personal preference is just Hi-Uni overall. If you're looking for a writing pencil, I would suggest a Mitsubishi 9850/9852 in HB, or a Blackwing 602/Natural. Tombow and MD Paper also make nice pencils for writing and I own some.

Great value
These are smooth, dark, sharpen well. Obsessive Japanese craftsmanship. They wear down relatively quickly but at the price it’s still a good deal.

Fantastic pencils!!
No joke...of all the stuff I've ever bought on Amazon, this has brought me the most pleasure. The writing is super smooth and intensely dark. I take only hand-written notes when studying (yes, I'm old school), and my hand doesn't get fatigued at all when using this pencil. I don't find any noticeable difference in the thickness of the pencil or lead as mentioned in other reviews. Although, if you have dry skin, you may find you have to re-grip it often due to the shiny coating that's used. I have a nice photo comparing this new Mitsubishi Hi-Uni 2b to previous notes I took with my Ticonderoga #2, but sadly, the photo upload tool isn't working. If you prefer pencils to pens for writing, this is the pencil for you. I'll definitely be purchasing more. Happy writing!!

Hi-Uni is top notch. .
Hi-Uni is definitely one of my all time favorite drawing pencils they're definitely one of the best out there and you can buy the whole set of them and then buy them by the dozen to replace them as they wear out...

Excellent, soft tipped pencil with a great line, no eraser at the tip
An excellent pencil, comparable to the black wing. This one does not have an eraser on the tip, but it’s probably better to go ahead and use the Stadler plastic eraser in any event.

Great pencils
If you don’t already know, Japanese pencils are some of the greatest out there. They hold their edge well, and they are easy to sharpen with anything from a cheap pencil sharpener to a nice name brand one. They are a little expensive, but they are good pencils.

Best Feature: Durability
I got the 2B for sketching, which will give me a nice gradation of dark to light strokes without too much added hand pressure for darks and too much fiddling for a whisper touch in order to get lighter lines. The lead really does last a bit longer than your average pencil and is nicely centered, but honestly, if you don't mind pressing a bit more into the paper to get a darker line, any student would do just as well with a set of Derwents. The pencil doesn't magically make you a better draftsman, it's just better at giving you instant darks. The price point is nicer than a Blackwing, which, in my opinion, would only benefit those who sell professional graphite renderings. Animators use these for the swift smoothness due to the particular graphite compound just as much as they use the Blackwings. But again, if you are studying and sketching, a cheaper brand or even a Ticonderoga number 2 is all you need.

Excellent quality, soft yet durable lead
I spent my schooling years in Malaysia and Singapore where 2B pencils were the pencils of choice. The soft lead made writing comfortable and smooth and even till today I still enjoy writing with 2B pencils. I am a bit of a pencil afficionado as I also use pencils from these brands: Palomino, Staedtler, Faber-Castell,and more. These made in Japan Hi- uni pencils by Mitsu-Bishi in 2B lead are premium quality pencils. The lead is soft yet does not break easily. Each pencil has a high-quality lacquered finish in a rich dark brown with the brand name embossed in gilt lettering. The end of the pencil is in black with 2B embossed upon it in gold trim. The pencil is light and comfortable to hold and the only minus is that these pencils do not contain erasers at the end. This is no big deal for me because I prefer using a hi-polymer eraser anyway. I think after trying so many pencils, the Blackwings and Hi-Uni's are my favorites, and I recommend them for those who enjoy a darker print in a softer lead.

A Exexcellent experience

A beautiful writing experience for those of us who use pencil a lot. The colour of the graphite makes for strong dark strokes that are easily erasable. If you write a lot you will need to sharpen them regularly, but I've noticed that helps with my thinking time when I'm working!

Fantastic for sketching, soft and rough and feel great in hand. Not too smudgy and erase pretty easy for 2B.
