Makes a lot of fog!
I'll start with the one negative. This does not run by itself or continually. It runs in 15 seconds (I think, can't remember) intervals before it stops to warm up more liquid and then it will start again shortly after. You also have to hold the button down the entire time. So if you're looking for something more automated, this won't do it right out the box. With that out the way, we can talk about how well it works for the price! Even with the small negatives above, I think this is still a 5 star unit. The quality seems to be very good for the price and does not look cheap. The remote, while having to be held down, does have a very long cord making it easier to use. You can also buy different remotes/timers to use with this so you don't have to hold the button down. Which eliminates the biggest negative and for the price I wouldn't expect it to come with all the bells and whistles. I included a picture of the remote and you can see the red light which comes on when the unit is warmed up and ready to make fog. As far as fog production. WOW!! I attached a picture of me testing it in our garage and in one cycle the whole place was filled up. That picture is from the first cycle of fog production, not multiple ones, and it was still making fog. Makes more than enough fog by far! Lastly, I used this for a much different reason. I was testing how much my AC ducts were leaking in my attic. So I positioned this below one of my returns, and because the remote is so long I could run it to the attic to hold down the button. I then ran it while my AC was going and watched to see where fog came out. Fog did come out of areas wth small leaks where tape was coming up or joints weren't sealed. It worked perfectly for what I wanted to do and maybe we can use it for something else more standard down the road. Oh ye, it does come with a small bottle of juice. Enough to fill up the tank and a little more which has been more than enough for what I've used it for so far. All in all, great buy that I would absolutely buy again if I need another one!

You have to take care of it
I was hesitant to order a chauvet because my last 1300 model, 4 years ago, lasted two days and was clogged. I work at a haunted house and got tired of having multiple small fog machines and wanted a bigger unit as my old 1300 chauvet worked wonders when it actually worked. I eventually learned you have to clean these out after each use with distilled water and vinegar and then do a final rinse out with just distilled water before storing and not running for 48 hours or more. So i ordered one, picked up some distilled water and vinegar and some quality fog solution (code 6 by master fog). I also learned diluting the fog fluid at 1-3 or even 1-1 helps prevent clogging and keeps the machine running smoother. I did all that and pressed the button and it worked just as well as my last one. Now came the teat to see how ling it would last. I am 4 weeks in and using it for 4 hours in every friday abd saturday in october and im cleaning it out after every saturday before it gets stored until next weekend and so far so good. I noticed if i did not clean it out or dilute the fog fluid it would act up and choke like my last one. The fog fluid supplier recommends to dilute thwir fog fluid anyways. The fogger when paired with code 6 fog fluid covers about 3 plus football fields with fog outside at about 50 degrees and no wind. It performs as expected and kicks butt. All you have to do is take care of it. I did not.have a timer issue with mine as it works as expected however i can not have both the red power button on along with the yelow timer button. The red power button is like holding down the green manual button and it shoots out fog whenever it is able to. But when the yellow one is pressed down by itself the timer works. The red is like a max full out fog whenever tou can button and the grren is whenever you want fog. Mayne they fixed the issue since im a recent buyer. But overall great fog machine for the price, just take care of it. UPDATE 9-17-13 I'm getting all the stuff ready for the haunted house and this still works properly. I stored it i my basement in a covered plastic storage bin with distilled water and vinegar in the tank. This is a must if you want to keep any fog machine running. You have to take care of them. If you don't you will have issues. Use a good quality fog solution, I use code 6, add some distilled water and distilled white vinegar into the solution, like a 1-4 ratio, just enough to keep it clean when running. Then after the weekend, or when it sits longer than 24 hours, run a 50-50 solution of distilled white vinegar and distilled water through it to really clean it out and leave some in the tank. If you do not do this it may get clogged and ruin your fun. This thing fired right up without a sputter after sitting for 11 months.

Great Fogger!
My first fogger was a cheap one. I paid $40 for it and it was very noise and instead of fog it was more like a mist. This fogger, let's just say that you get what you pay for! It is big and a bit heavy, about 26 to 30 pounds with fog juice. This is a proffesional fogger. Noise level compare to the cheap model is a night and day difference. I used it non-stop for 7 hours displacing a fog cycle about every 15-20 minutes and it did not use even a quarter of the fog juice tank. It is also great to be able to remove the fog juice tank, lights that switch from blue to red during operation and automatic shut off when it runs out of juice. Allthough, if you fill the tank I sincerely doubt that you will use a full gallon in anyone time party. I loved this fogger, specially that I can adjust the nozzle direction so that I can place it in places that other foggers can't. If you want that proffessional quality fog with a rich thick white cloud of fog, this is the one. You won't be disappointed. Please use the right fog juice. I used the Chauvet premium fog juice which is a bit expensive but I wanted the best. Try it with the American Dj Galaxian laser and you will be the talk of the town.

Complete Dissapointment
I was fully disappointed with this fog machine. For a few years I was using a low cost no-name fog machine for my Halloween display. The one issue that I had with it was that its heat cycle was not always in sync with what I needed and would prevent the machine from producing fog when I wanted or needed it to. This year I decided to upgrade the fogger to a constant temp machine so that it would produce fog when I wanted and needed it to and went with the CHAUVET DJ 1000 because the company has a good rep and the reviews also looked good. Unfortunately, the few bad reviews were dead on This review is a bit long but I prefer long reviews explaining things than just it's great or it sucks with no explanation as to why in either case. When the unit arrived, I was a bit surprised on how small it was but it does say compact in the description, It comes with a wired and wireless remote but neither one is all that great. The wired remote as shown in the picture, is a el-cheepo one button remote with no timing or output control and is of very low quality. The wireless is a built in 4 button remote that only one of those buttons is used and once again, no control over output level and you need to hold it down to create fog. The description says that the other three buttons are for future use but not as far as this machine goes since there is no way to upgrade it for added functionality. It looks to me that they just used a remote for another unit that has more functionality. Another downside is that this remote is built into the unit so it can't be upgraded later. When the unit showed up, the fog juice that I ordered also came the same day so I gave it a quick test run. The fog juice that I was using is Froggy's Freezing fog to create a low lying fog for a Cemetery scene so it is not junk juice. They claim or at least I understood this machine to be a constant temp machine but it is not. Unlike the low cost no-name $40 fog machine I was using, it uses two sensors to control it instead of one. The cheep machine uses one sensor that either runs the heater or the pump which give the machine that annoying working / not working heat cycle. This one uses 2 sensors, one controlling the heat and the other controlling the pump. The two sensors overlap in temp settings allowing the fogger to produce fog even while still heating once the minimum temp is reached. Each one of these sensors is also connected to an LED that shines into the fluid tank, the heat LED is red and the pump LED is blue. This makes the tank glow in one of three colors, indicating the current state of the fogger. Red for warming up and no fog, Purple for warming up but operational, and Blue for warmed up and operational. After filling the fog machine and waiting for a blue tank, I pressed the button and was sadly NOT impressed. While it produced fog, the volume was not impressive and didn't seem a whole lot more than the cheep machine I was using. It was a bit breezy that day and I justified the output due to that but I should have done a bit more testing then. The day before Halloween I set the fogger up the way I set up the low cost unit and was shocked at how poorly it worked. Very little fog came out. Checking the connections I could see that the jet actually melted the hose that connected it to the chiller. I thought that it may just be due to the higher wattage of this unit but the reality is that it is a combination of the higher wattage and second rate low output pump. Another issue is that the button on the wired remote kept sticking in the on position. It is a cheaply made unit that is of lower quality than the one that came with my low cost no-name fogger. They claim is that this unit has a controllable output and if so, then the controller that comes with it should be able to control these abilities, not just produce fog when pressed. As the machine is currently sold, there is no way to use that function without buying optional equipment. Since it was too late to get a different machine, I changed the feed tube to solid PVC and went from there. The wireless remote worked when it wanted to and at times, you could see a blue tank and no output. When you fired it off at other times, by the time the fog started coming out of the chiller, the tank would go from blue to purple to red and the fog would stop. Since it was about 58 degrees outside, the temp is really not an excuse for such poor output. Things were going so poorly, I dug out the no-name machine and set it up on the other side of the display with no chiller and using the same juice and it worked MUCH better and producing more fog and more consistently. With this machine, I spent the extra $10 for the timer controller which also has the variable output dial. The variable output does not do anything with this low cost machine because it doesn't have that ability but the timer makes things much easier provided the timer doesn't try to create fog during the warm up cycle. This is the type of remote that the CHAUVET should have come with. Event the single button remote that the no-name machine came with is of much higher quality than the CHAUVET's and there really is no excuse for that. I would have liked to use the no-names controller but it has a different connector than the CHAUVET I had no time or desire to modify it or hunt down a connector to use on it. When you buy a name brand unit, there is a higher level of expectation and it simply was not even close to being met here. My no-name $40 machine was at minimum a match if not superior to this unit in just about every way. It stays warm longer, better controls, more output, and lower cost. And this with a 400 watt unit compared to a 1000 name brand unit. Even with the addition of the extra $10 for the timed wired remote for the no-name still makes it a much better value than this $100 name brand machine and that is in a word - sad. At least the one good thing is that I am still within the return window and that is exactly what I am going to do. This machine is simply not worth keeping as is and I doubt that CHAUVET is going to do anything about it. I would strongly suggest that if you decide to purchase this unit, you fully inspect and test it as soon as you get it and make sure that it is not a return and meets your needs. I think that you are going to find that it is not of the quality or capability that you would expect. I don't know if this unit may have been a return. It was well packed but could have possibly been used and run dry which can hurt the pump and reduce output or left dirty and partially clogged. Amazon is good about returns but there is a limit on the time you have to do it and if you miss that point, you may be SOL as far as this unit and company is concerned.

Good quality fogger that works well
The only reason I did not give the fogger 5 stars is the fog duration. I did not expect continuous fogging because the information never stated that. However, I did expect the duration of each fog cycle to be longer. I use the fogger at Halloween and run it through a homemade fog chiller. I have to be mindful of durations, starting and stopping frequently so there are no long periods of waiting for it to heat back up. Yes, it heats up quickly, and produces good quality fog. My use however is trying to provide that creepy foggy night feeling while outside where the area I am trying to fog is larger than inside and any breeze quickly blows the fog away. That is the reason why I need longer fog durations. Normally it would not be needed and this fogger would work perfectly for any other application.. The fogger is built very well. It has a metal housing, extension control and a fluid container that is easily accessed and cleaned after use. My last fogger had too much plastic and eventually failed if not babied. I like the fogger enough that, at its price, I might by a second fogger for this next Halloween and hook them both up to my chiller in an alternating fashion. The duration issue will go away and this solution is much cheaper than the more expensive continuous foggers available.

Doesn't put out much before it needs to re-heat
As the director of our lighting department, I've purchased many Chauvet fixtures, and never been disappointed. I have two Chauvet Hurricane 2D hazer's that work really great, and I purchased this one for a dramatic effect for our Easter production (to be used in a very small space). However, this little fogger (and it is very little!!) is a disappointment. It starts up fine after a 3 or 4 minute warmup, but it only produces fog for about 25-30 seconds, and then stops for 25-30 seconds to re-heat, even if you keep the button pushed on the remote. Apparently, the heating element isn't very powerful and senses "cold" fluid coming into it and shuts off the flow until it can get hot enough to start dispensing fog again. Kind of useless, actually. Chauvet needs to do some homework on this one and make some significant improvements, in my view. Seems like as long as the remote button is pushed, it should produce fog, but it doesn't. I will probably return this to Amazon. Too bad. I was expecting more from this otherwise great brand name! I guess you get what you pay for. I would have paid $50 to get the Chauvet brand in this size machine, but this one isn't worth the $33 that I paid for it.

Professional-grade output for serious lighting rigs!
If you’re running a rig with Chauvet color strips or moving heads, this fog machine is a game-changer. The heat-up time is very fast, and the output is dense enough to make every beam of light visible across the entire room. The LED-illuminated tank is a brilliant design touch it’s not just for aesthetics; it’s a functional "fuel gauge" that lets you see your fluid levels from across a dark stage. The included wired timer remote is reliable and allows for "set and forget" operation during a busy event.

Still awesome six years later
This little machine has been amazing for what I didn’t realize was the past six years. I have not taken great care of it, and probably only have used it maybe once a year. But it is a little beast. It works great still even though, I probably need to clean the hose out. All the cords and connecting pieces have held up really well. The cord on the remote has always been longer than I’ve even needed it to be so I can always hide it very well and still be in a good place to use the fog. The power cable is short, but with an extension cord on it I can also put that wherever I need it to as well. The quality is all that comes out as great. Even when I’m using a different brand of fog solution, or even a cheap Walmart knock off fog solution. Very pleased with my purchase.
