Great, supportive brace
After sustaining a serious ankle fracture and multiple surgeries I needed extra support as I transitioned out of a cam boot and back to normal. I tried many different braces and this was the best for me. I especially like the quick lace up system it uses--so much better than other braces. I can wear it with tennis shoes but it is a little bulky but not anymore than others I tried. Feels very supportive and effective.

So much better than than the full lace up
I was given the full lace up brace from my orthopedic group after I graduated out of the "boot" from a broken ankle. It has laces like hightop tennis shoes, where you need to loosen the laces all the down to get them off and re-tighten them when you put them back on. What a hassle. The speed laces eliminates all that. The design gathers four laces at a time and connects them to a heavy duty piece of velcro which you pull across and secure. There are 2 speed laces each coming from opposite sides assuring good support. SO much easier. The rest of the design is the same as the full lace-ups. Two straps (one on each side) are used to come down around the heel/arch in a figure eight and secured with heavy duty Velcro firmly supporting the ankle. Lastly, a wide Velcro cuff around the top holds everything in place. The Speed-lace design also has removal stays on both sides to add more stability. My Physical Therapists love it too.

It works for people with "loose" ankles and its comfortable.
I received my first DonJoy Speed Pro Ankle Support Brace from my podiatrist. I've had many, many ankle problems and I had sprained my ankle again. I bought another Donjoy brace for my other ankle. These braces work for me and they are comfortable and not difficult to put on.

Brace yourself
Expidious shipping, quality product. This was recommended by my Dr. It was half the price of one from my Physical Therapist.

My Ride or Die - long review
SO. I originally got this brace directly from my podiatrist for my severe achilles tendonitis. By that point I had tried almost every style of brace I could get my hands on for various styles, even some from the podiatrist directly. If a brace did not fit well or was too difficult to put on, they were no good. I have mental illnesses and finding the energy and motivation to put something on every day and wear it all day was hard for me to do; if you dont like it, you won't use it basically. It was a chore to put on for all of my braces until this brace came into my life. Most of the same style of braces are fully laced so you would have to loosen the laces drastically to get your foot in, and sometimes you would have to re-lace the top half to wear it. This can get really old really fast if you have to wear it daily. The Speed Pro Brace on the other hand, is super easy to use. There are a few steps, but they are so quick to to do, probably around 10 seconds to put on, if that. Instead of re-lacing every time you put it on, the laces are split into two velcro tabs so it is a pull and attach to the side velcro strips. Then the figure 8 straps to the side velcro, and then the final top ankle wrap to stabilize even further. It is super easy and quick, and I love it! Things that could be changed in general: -the plastic D rings that the lacing laces through could be better. There have been times that shoes or the brace shifted and has made the D rings hit a pressure point on my foot - not fun, but after unwrapping it and after adjusting it you can move on with your day. I do not know if a sturdy and less hard material can be used instead, or if lowering it's profile will help. Now, you are probably wondering why I am reviewing on amazon if I got my brace through my podiatrist...WELL I wore my initial one out. I cannot even remember how long I have used it, but I wear it 40 hours a week minimum and it has been a few months 3-5 months I think. I work an office job so more walking, standing, etc. Where the D rings attach for the lacing, there is a stability product that I think is plastic strip because the sides paralleled to the leg portion of my ankle has removable plastic stability strips, almost like a book mark. The lacing stability has warped from flat to a squiggle. Since I wear the brace so long and so often, I am not surprised. So I ordered one directly from amazon instead of going through my podiatrist. It arrived this morning and it looks and works exactly the same as my first one. BUT there is one difference. The top set of laces seem to be shorter than my first version. I am not sure if that was an updated feature on my original brace, or the one I got second. it still will function the same and the laces may stretch. not sure I got a flawed product or not, but I made sure I got the correct sized brace, so who knows. This is my favorite ankle brace compared to all of the others I have tried in my 29 years of life. I played sports, went backpacking, and haven't had the best care in my younger years in regards to physical injuries. I am getting a custom brace done through my podiatrist, but my current one wouldn't last the 2-3 weeks more while that is getting processed and shipped, yesterday I held a not so funeral for the first one, as I purchased the second one with express shipping. I legit told my podiatrist I want something like the speed pro, but with more longevity and customized to my foot. I will sing my praises about this brace any time someone asks about braces for their ankles. I also recommend crocs....I am part of the population that think crocs look ugly, but the combo of the brace, crocs, and at home ankle exercises got me down to a 2-3 level pain on the daily instead of a 9. Great improvement! If not a croc fan, get loose tennis shoes, tighter shoes make getting your foot and brace into it a little difficult.

Doctor recommended but bulky and irritating to the skin
I ordered this per my doctors instructions after I had rolled my ankle. I did not seek any real intervention due to the fact the initial x-ray(urgent care) showed no bone breaks. After 3 months, the still was painful and the foot/ ankle specialist retook x-rays (multiple views) and this time showed a healing fracture. I had also torn ligaments. I ordered a small which was probably too large for me, I’m small boned/ 115lbs. I really had to pull the laces and the Velcro straps tight. If you don’t wear a sock with it it rubs the skin on the inside. It is quite stable, but a bit uncomfortable. It is also bulky, I could not wear it with my Ecco leather lace up city sneakers, or Brooks running shoes. the only shoe I could wear it with were some Supergas that were quite wide, so that worked as did some Vionic flip flops. I geuss it is more a fit issue for me, but after a few weeks I returned to the doctor and he told me I had improved.

Weird fit
I had a lace-up stabilizer and I bought this so I wouldn’t have to mess with the laces. When I first put it on, I was really disappointed and thought I would have to return it. The laces aren’t really sewn on right and it doesn’t seem like the Velcro will reach where it needs to on one side. I ended up keeping it and making it work. After using it a few times, I figured out how I could make the Velcro catch and how to use the straps to hold everything in place. The foot section didn’t fit as tight around my foot as the lace up one. That worried me at first, because I had recently had foot surgery and felt like I needed the additional stability. But I pretty quickly realized that the ankle portion was still really stable, so it didn’t matter as much. Based on the convenience of the speed laces, I ended up wearing this one instead of my lace up one. So I’d recommend it in that regard, but there are definitely some fit issues that need to be sorted out.

Recommended by my surgeon and physical therapist
Recommended by my physical therapist and my surgeon. Have worn these for years and provide good stability. Just make sure to look and see that you get the kind with the easy lace that has Velcro not the entire lace up version.

I have a fractured (Spiral) fibula on the right and two sprained ankles. I have an AirCast, but needed something to stabilize the fibula while I sleep . . . I also use it during the day on my left ankle to stabilize the sprain. It would have been wonderful to have TWO DonJoy Stabilizing Speed Pro Ankle Supports but there was only one in stock!!! I am checking daily in hope that they will restock . . . SOON!!!
