The Last Sunset

Two cowboys at odds...one good and one bad - guess who dies? In the 1960s most of the Westerns had the same storyline, it included cattle drives, buxom blondes, attacking Indians or outlaws. The 'good guy' always won in the end (a misleading message to youngsters like myself). But it was still fun to watch (for lightweight fare).

Excellent western.

I am batting two for two with this second import starring Kirk Douglas. Again a great 1:85 transfer although this time is Eastman Color. Strong direction by Robert Aldrich and excellent support from Rock Hudson, Dorothy Malone, Joseph Cotten and Carol Lynley. Finely wrought script from Dalton Trumbo. Now if this label would release THE LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER on blu I would consider the achievement to be the equivalent of a hat trick.

I had seen this movie many many years ago, and looked and looked for it, not quite remembering the exact name, or who else was in it, other than Kirk Douglas, and when I finally found it, I was so very excited, I immediately ordered it. When I received it, I was so very excited to view it again, that I had totally forgotten to look to see if it had Closed Caption for the Deaf. Well it didn’t have CC or Subtitles. I was so very upset. So I looked it up again to see if I could find it with CC but didn’t find it. That is a real bummer, since I am deaf.

not a bad movie and not a good one either, I have seen better Kirk Douglas movies. Also I know it is a MOD DVD but the picture quality is not good in some scenes

I recommend this western movie for your collection . Two great actors

Ist ein klasse Film. Bin total begeistert von dem Western. Gehört unbedingt in den Schrank. Rock Hudson u. Kirk Douglas geben ein tolles Schauspiel ab. Kein klischee Western, mit ungewöhnlichen Ausgang. Kann ich nur empfehlen!

OK - I'm a western fan, so I am biassed to a degree. However, If I don't like an item I'm quite prepared to say so. The Last Sunset (Universal) [DVD ] is not what I would call a great story line, we've seen it before told in similar fashion. What makes this one stand out is the quality of the acting especially from Kirk Douglas (I've never known another actor who can change from a warm smile to a spine-chilling cold stare with almost no movement of facial muscles). Rock Hudson and Dorothy Malone are quite good also but a young looking Carol Lynley plays a good role as Malone's daughter.The write-up on the back of the DVD says "....gripping western with a dark twist...." Well it's not dark and you can see it coming a mile off, but it doesn't detract from the western that left me feeling "where did that 100-odd minutes go?" when it had finished. Give it 3 months and I'll be watching it again.Well worth adding to any western fan's collection. Recommended The Last Sunset (Universal) [DVD
