The Timex T49042 is a great watch!! I am very, very satisfied!
After a few years of not having a watch, I began searching for a watch that met my visual and feature requirements. This Timex T48042 watch fits my desires perfectly. The watch screen is large enough to easily read, and the layout of it is also very good. It shows the time in large digits, while also displaying the day and the date in smaller digits. It has a stopwatch/lap function with a 99+ lap function. When the 99th lap is reached, the lap counter resets to 0, but the timer continues to time accordingly. It has a large "Indiglo" button directly below the screen which provides ample light in darkness to read the entire screen with ease. The watch band is very comfortable and has 9 holes for fitting. The inside of the band (the part that touches the wrist) has a very soft material, I'm guessing that it is nylon according to the product description, stitched to it, which makes the watch quite comfortable. The outside of the band is a combination of brown leather and black nylon, which gives it a very nice look and feel to it. The watch head is a forest green and the buttons are a greenish-tan color. Overall, the colors work beautiful together and was one of the reasons I was attracted to this watch. The watch is not waterproof, but it is water resistant to approximately 100m. So be careful if getting near water with this watch as water may manage to get inside the watch. I have not has any problem, but I am relatively careful when near water with this watch. I, personally, have not found any cons or problems with this watch. It is well built and should last quite a while if taken care of. Overall, I am very satisfied with this watch. The functionality, colors, and feel work very well together, and it is a pleasure to own and wear. I fully recommend this watch.

Quality product
Great product at a good price. I had bought the exact same watch a number of years ago and was pleased with it and it still works but the band is wearing out so I bought a new one. I would recommend this watch to anyone looking for a good lasting product.

Timex Expeditions are great
I bought my first Timex Expedition watch many many years ago when I was a teenager. I work hard doing construction so I used to wear out watches quick. My first Timex Expedition watch took all of the abuse and never failed me. I usually end up losing them over time so I have had to buy several over the years. My last Timex Expedition watch I owned for over 10 years before I left it at work one day and someone either wanted it more than I did or it was thrown away. I purchased this one as a replacement as it was the same model that I purchased as a teen and it hasn't let me down yet. The band is leather and thin so it's comfortable to wear. It has an easy to read display. It's nice and thin so when I do get tired of wearing it I can just slip it into my shirt pocket. A good watch and a good buy.

Long term review!
UPDATE (Nov 30, 2019) I just replaced the battery again, the watch is still working fine, including the indiglo button. UPDATE (Oct 11, 2018) Just a month after I wrote this review, I went on vacation with my family, I spent a lot of time in the pool with this watch on, I guess the water might have loosen the indiglo button because it started working again. I have upgraded this review to 4 stars, the only bad thing with this watch is the low quality wrist band. ORIGINAL REVIEW (Dec 05, 2017) I originally bought this watch on December 11, 2011, the case is still going strong, I had to replace the battery last year, the original strap lasted a couple of years only, then I got a Timex Genuine Leather 18mm Brown Replacement Watchband , that again lasted only a couple of years. Finally I just got a couple of Ritche 18mm Nato Straps , I hope they last longer than the original Timex ones. The indiglo button doesn't work anymore, everything else works fine. PROS: - Sturdy watch case. CONS: - Screen can be easily scratched. - Original Timex watchbands don't last enough. - Indiglo button fails after 2 years. All in all, it is a good watch.

Great Watch
I have been a fan of Timex digital watches for years because unlike other brands there is a great selection of smaller, light weight designs. When I obliterated my "Iron Man" recently I was once again in the market for a digital, but this time I wanted something that looked less like a runner's watch and more like a conventional watch with the functionality I needed. I am happy to say, the Timex Men's Outdoor Performance Chrono Alarm Timer Expedition Watch #T48042 fit the bill perfectly. It is small, for those of us with small bone structure it will not overwhelm your wrist, and stylish, it has the functionality but also fits better than my previous digital watches in a business environment. There is one great change from my earlier watches. For backpacking or any time you need to check the time at night the Indiglo button has been moved to the front and it is much easier to light up the watch face.

Great watch for working with your hands
Husband loves this and it has held up well this past few months. He is a mechanic and wears it everyday! Quality is great and the color is accurate.

I used to love the Timex T48042 but no longer
This was the perfect watch. Large display, great functions, durable, inexpensive. All of the features on every T48042 I've owned worked great. They last me several years, until the watch band breaks, the face is more scratched than I like, or the control buttons become difficult to get to work. But I have always gotten a great life from them. I like them so much, I have bought nine of them over the past ten years. I have four in reserve right now, so I can continue to have this model after Timex decides to discontinue them. So why the one star, don't buy again? Timex has changed the design - replacing the battery (available through Amazon for $0.61 each) is no longer simple. It used to be just a small jeweler's Phillips head and good eye sight. But the three I just bought does not have screws holding the batteries in place. I surfed the web for instructions, but found nothing. I emailed Timex and they said they do not provide instructions - take it to a jeweler or ship it to them to have the battery replaced (for $12 - $15). Hmm, $12 to $15, plus postage and two to four weeks to get the watch back (per Timex's email) or the gas and time to take it to a jeweler, vs. $0.61 for a battery delivered to my home? These watches are now one battery watches, disposables. This change is why I advise do not buy this watch, unless you want to throw it out when the battery runs out.

Can't Do Without This Watch!
I think I'm on my 6th one of these watches, NOT because they are poorly made; on the contrary - they have to stand up to 24-hour-a-day use and abuse and, oh my goodness! how they do that! I actually keep an extra on hand just in case I manage to destroy the one I'm using. I have never had a watch so amazing before, and if they ever stop making this model, I am going to be seriously lost since I can't imagine going a day without it. I rely upon it so much that I find it almost impossible to exchange it for a dress-up watch - even for my own wedding - and I was the bride!!! The 3 alarms are vital to my lifestyle, as are the 2 timezone settings. The Indiglo light is essential because I am often working in darker rooms, and I love that it shows not only hours and minutes, but the day of the week, month and day, and seconds. I don't own a bedroom alarm clock; my watch has done that duty without fail since the first one I purchased. The description says the strap is leather and nylon, but it seems to me that it is entirely leather except for possibly the 2 cross-bands which hold down the tail end of the strap. Sometimes the Indiglo button will stop working and the setting-knobs will become difficult to push in. I have found that, in all cases, this was caused by an accumulation of dirt and lint under the bases of the knobs. It is almost impossible to access these areas without cracking the plastic ring around the face, so have a jeweler clean those places when he replaces your battery. (The batteries last for years but, as a warning, be aware that 2 of my watches were completely ruined because I made the mistake of getting the battery changed at Wally World, and the employees broke the 4 setting-knobs when they misaligned the backs before replacing them on the watches. Use a professional jeweler instead. You can also request a yellow Timex return-box from the jewelry counter at Wally World, and probably other places too. Then you can send the watch to Timex to have the battery replaced or any other problem resolved.)

Good watch
I wore an Expedition for about 15 years until the indigo light and sound functions finally died. This model has all the functions of the old one and a couple more. The stopwatch is easy to read when swimming. The armband is nylon and leather and looks good and feels good to wear. However, I have noticed that the nylon fabric on the inside is already damaged by the pin of the buckle.

Solid watch with an excellent leather strap that fits well on my small wrist
I have a small wrist and it fits perfectly. The strap is nice, much better than cloth straps I've had with past watches. Watch itself serves well; I've no need for anything fancy, and this suits my needs. Multiple alarms and a chronometer that can split laps; the night light is solid. The one thing that's missing is a second clock - for another time zone - but it's easy enough to set the time when I travel to a different time zone. Will definitely buy this again if my current one ever needs to be replaced.
