Can one flat knit on this going back and forth as you could on a hand knit circle loom?

This smaller version makes only tubes. The next size up is one that will make a flat piece by going back n forth.

Can you use this machine with one hand? Want to purchase for someone who is disabled.

I need two hands. One to hold the machine in place and the other to turn the crank. A knitting machine with suction cups on the bottom (which would help it stay in place without having to hold it) would be a better option for your friend.
