I use this for my cement floor do me and my pets can lounge around and nap just like in Japan culture. I didn't think it would suffice regardless of the price. Comfortable. I'm a believer.

Was looking for a tatami style mat/rug without paying the tatami price. I used this for a Japanese-style tea party for friends, and wanted the ambience to mimic the feel of experiencing a Japanese tea ceremony. Real tatami mats are beautiful, but they are expensive, and I'd have to buy several of them to make a square area. I did find a really cool mattress style tatami, but it was big and I don't have anywhere to store it. Plus it was still a bit expensive. I then found this mat. Yes, it's synthetic, and doesn't look like real tatami, but it's collapsible, light, and it still somewhat resembles tatami. Plus, with it being synthetic, I can clean it easily, and it's soft with a sewn in mat underneath. It's also large, where I was able to have several adults on it at the same time. This worked out very well for me, and I plan on using it in the future, since it was comfortable.

Love, love this tatami mat. It's so soft and squishy, it's large enough & perfect for my dogs and I to relax on. Sometimes we nap on it as well. Although it's a bit thin, maybe about a centimeter thick, it holds up a lot of cushion and comfort. The thinness of this tatami mat makes it very easy to fold and move around. Also, the coolness of this mat is wondrous. You put your feet on it then suddenly you feel your feet touching the cool sand at the beach. It's great. I use this mat underneath a shikibuton and truly, my back problems have disappeared. Would say it's a combination of sleeping on the ground and my chiropractor so shoutout to him. I get a good night's rest with this tatami mat and feel very content with my purchase. Would definitely recommend.

If you are looking for something to provide a lot of extra padding this isn't really the thing. The foam inside is very low density and so it's a bit more like a blanket. This may be something better to put over a carpet with it's own carpet pad already. On the pro side it does keep it's shape, staying flat and square when it's unfolded even after multiple uses. The underside also seems to be quite dirt resistant. I think my biggest complaint besides the lack of padding is also the top fabric is not very durable. Less so then even a bed-sheet or similar. Of course these are meant to be used without shoes, but even still I'm starting to see signs of wear already.
