Does a radio like this need a tuner or will it work directly with a properly tuned antenna?

It does not require a tuner however the antenna will need to be resonant with a relatively low swr at the frequency this radio operates on.

Will work with 7.04 xtal?

It should. I've never used an xtal other than came with the kit. But, I've talked to others that have.

How to I make sure I get the 7.050mhz crystal?
