Really Satisfied with the Coway Airmega Purifier
I first used this air purifier in my child’s room. My child has seasonal allergies, and after using this air purifier, the allergy symptoms definitely improved, and the air in the room feels fresher. I liked the Coway airmega purifier so much that I replaced the previous one in the living room with a Coway model. Since then, the air quality in the entire house has improved. One of the best features is Eco Mode. When we’re out or when there’s no one home, I leave it running in Eco Mode, and it keeps the air quality great all day without wasting energy. After a day out, I come home to fresh, clean air. I’m really happy with the results. Replacing the filter is easy, and the noise is minimal, so it doesn’t disturb me even in the living room. I highly recommend this air purifier for anyone sensitive to allergies or dust! It’s not only great in performance, but the design is sleek and fits well with the decor of the house

Buy this!
This product is definitely worth the money. It keeps the air in my home so clean, it is truly exceeding my expectations. As the weather shifted into spring, the pollen has been a bugger but step into my home and my surfaces are pollen free and nearly dust free. I had a bit of a musty smell in one of my closets and set this up in there and within a matter of a few hours, the smell was completely gone and has stayed gone. It is easy to use, built well and makes little to no noise (except when turned to the highest setting which I only use when frying something). Being that it is pretty compact and very lightweight, It is easy to move around the house. I would definitely purchase this product again.

I’m Impressed.
I was planning to buy a purifier to help with the pollen and food smells and chose this model. It has worked very well for a 2 bedroom apartment. Its not too big, not too small, so I keep it next to the dining table and the system is set to Auto or Eco. Both detect air quality and adjust the fan speed accordingly. In terms of noise levels, I agree with most reviewers that it’s very quiet on low settings; high setting being comparable to the noise a kitchen extractor makes. Allergies and sneezing are less in these few weeks, and the smell of food definitely does not linger as long as before. In a 2-3 hours it’s basically gone. I hope to keep updating as I go but I can already tell this one is a keeper.

New filter smell is noxious
I’m lucky enough to walk through my urban environment without any chemical or scent sensitivities. But the HEPA filter in these Coway units are so chemical smelling that I immediately get a headache and nausea from them. It takes a long time of running the unit for the scent to dissipate. The Wirecutter review mentions this horrible, caustic scent but says it’s a resolved problem. It is not. Coway even mentions it in their FAQ. They know it’s a problem. I emailed and asked for a replacement filter because of Wirecutter’s assertion that it was a thing of the past, so surely I just got an old filter? Coway will not send you a new filter, they just tell you to run it in a room with a window open (so if it’s the middle of winter or the height of summer, you have to wait for spring or fall?). For context: I bought one unit, the one with the grid face, in September 2024, when it was 113°F in Arizona and it came with a toxic off-gassing filter. I left it outside for a week and then braved running it inside until the smell dissipated (obviously, one cannot open a window in Arizona in the summer, it doesn’t go below 100°F at any point in the day or night for many months at a time). It was a long 5 days of putting up with that smell. I ordered another unit in October, this time the other style that looks like an iPod shuffle face. Again, the filter smells noxious, and gives me a headache. Upshot: I will not be buying replacement filters directly from Coway, luckily there are lots of third-party offerings out there. Coway KNOWS this is a problem and doesn’t seem interested in solving it, despite making a product promising to make your environment less, not more, unhealthy. Wirecutter has dropped the ball by suggesting it’s no longer an issue. If, like me, you don’t have a million spare rooms to run an off-gassing air polluter behind a closed door with a window open until it converts to an air-cleaner, I’d strongly suggest purchasing from another brand. Update: I got another Coway Airmega. I wanted one for my bedroom. I’m jealous of the people who seem to be getting filters without the smell problem, because it happened again with this unit. It smells like you’ve walked into a cheap carpet warehouse where they also happen to be storing slightly burned sneakers. I’ve never experienced that with the HEPA filters for my AC or any of my vacuums, it’s a Coway specific thing. It’s also mentioned in many reviews if you search here. It’s bad and it lasts for days, over 7 days for the smell to lessen this time. Once that’s over and you’ve just gone ahead and breathed in all those noxious fumes, the unit works great! The auto function is awesome, it really reacts to things that kick up dust, like if I shake out the pet bed or scoop cat litter, sending the unit into high mode for a few seconds in response. When it’s on speed one, which it is most of the time on auto-mode, it’s almost completely silent. I like that I can turn off the large blue air quality indicator light, but why in the world don’t the two green lights that indicate speed also turn off with it? The unit is pretty far from my bed so it doesn’t bother me at night, but they are really bright. I’ll get my replacement filters from someone else, because I’m not going through that awful sick feeling of off-gassing the Coway brand filters again, but I do like the units and how they function a lot.

Powers up automatically when more dust/odors are detected
I love Coway Purifiers. While we were having our kitchen renovated, a friend offered to let us borrow her Coway purifier to handle the dust and odors. We set up the Coway purifier same day as the painters were spraying our kitchen cabinets. Even though the painters encircled our kitchen in plastic sheets, the odor was very strong. Within a 1/2 hour after the painters left, the odor was gone! It kept the dust way down as well. We ordered our own Coway Purifier the next day. This particular model covers 3 times the square footage as another model and doesn't cost that much more.

Easy to use small quiet unit.
Very good small unit. Circulates air as well as eliminating orders. No spine in electric bill indoors of its high usage in my home. You hear it but it is not excessive or annoying. Going on second year with out issue. Easy to clean/change filter. Recommended.

Newbie unboxing impression/Things the instruction book doesn't tell you
Newbie unboxing - Step 1 remove from box. Step 2 open front cover. Step 3 (This IS important) oh no, how do we remove the stuck prefilter grid (calling tech support). Step 4 dictated by tech support - pull down both prefilter grid top black clips and pull black grid clips forward all at the same exact time. This pulls the prefilter grid out. Step 5 remove bag around deodorizer filter. Step 6 remove bag around HEPA filter and try to remember which way it goes back in. Call back tech support to learn which way the now bagless HEPA filter goes back in the for the (unknown to us) air flow direction Answer is that air flow goes into the front and exhausts out the back top. Step 7 Learn that unit cannot be put in direct sunlight. Step 8 learn that unit has to be placed so many cm's away from walls and everything above and around. Step 9 Find a tape measure that shows cm's. Step 10 Learn that turning on the Ionizer is discouraged by most users including me. Step 11 Learn that Eco setting turns the unit off after a period of time. Step 12 Learn that auto speed button 1 is quiet, speed button 2 can be heard and speed button 3 is loud. All around where we live for the last 6 days have been high winds and burning red cedars and some burning houses in outlying communities plus smoke haze all over our part of the state. With this in mind we are running on Auto fan speed 2 and wishing we had bought this unit before the outside air smelled of smoke and turned into the color of light brown. You LA people know exactly what I'm talking about. The quality sensor works by changing the really bright blue indicator light to purple or red as it senses a change in air quality. The light can be turned off and on by holding down the ionizer button for 3 seconds on the latest version. Closely watch for price changes and available stock on the Coway Airmega 200m(w). You snooze, you lose.
