I wish I had bought this 2 years ago. I love it.
I have had this for over 2 months now and it is working great. Our English Coon Hound no longer gets on the couch. This is easy to put in place when not using the couch and easy to remove when you want to use it (especially compared to 2 baby gates with 40lbs of weight on them). We went through all the tricks to keep the dog off the couch and this is the best and easiest to use. First we tried draping a cover stretched out at an angle from the back to front. The dog simply climbed onto it and pushed it down. Covers didn't work because she would move them and still get hair all over the couch. Next we put stretched out baby gates across the couch. She pulled them off the couch. We then tried plastic carpet protectors with the little spikes up. Again the dog pulled it off. We went back to the baby gates but put 4 10lb weights on them. This worked for about 5 months, or so we think. This fall noticed that the gates didn't look right and were finding dog hair on the couch. She was laying on top of the baby gates since she couldn't pull them off. Last we got the Sofa Scram. First day we noticed some disturbance at one end of the couch but it looked like the dog had started to get on the couch and then got off when the alarm was activated. For the past two months we have not seen any sign of her being on the couch other than every couple of weeks the mark (indentation) from a paw as if she is testing it. The dog does not like the sound emitted. I found this out for sure one day when I started to remove it without turning it off. The high pitched beep made her jump and to into her crate. For your reference this is an English Coon Hound that weights 80 lbs.

Definitely works!
It definitely works though not in the way I expected. We were having an issue with our kitten where he would jump up onto the bathroom counter and eat our decorative plants. We purchased the sofa scram to lay out over the whole counter. When he jumps up onto the counter he is received with a loud annoying tone. The tone doesn't scare him so much as it irritates him and he decides to jump down. Haven't seen him up on the counter since and are plants are finally safe. If you're looking to buy this product to keep your cat off your couch I can tell you without a doubt that it'll keep the cat off that area in particular but he/she will definitely sit on and scratch every exposed area of couch around it. EDIT A FEW MONTHS LATER: So heres the thing. This isnt so much an issue with the product itself as with the method. Ive been using the sofa scram for a number of months now and it was originally my intention that it'd be used for a short time and eventually the cat would stop trying to jump on my bathroom or leather couch. Unfortunately the cat will simply step anywhere that sofa scram isnt. If its a couch, the cat will be all over the arms and sides without a second thought. For a counter, the cat will find the one spot that the pad doesn't cover and just walk there. So it really depends how you define "works" with regard to this product. It doesn't, at least in my case, train the cat out of going areas you don't like. If you removed the pad for a day the cat sees that its gone and will be right back in that area.

These scat mats really work!
So I was of course skeptical at first. But with knowing I could return it, what did I have to lose. We have four big dogs. They actually ruined one of our sets, I could not keep my dogs off the furniture. I mean I tried several different thingsโฆfrom trying to take my cushions off, trying mouse traps, then using those plastic pieces with the pokey things, NOTHING worked. Then I found these scat mats. I started out with ordering two. I put them on our long couch, they make a pretty high pitch sound. I went to work and when I came home for lunch, I could hear that high pitched sound from outside. I came in the house and the dogs were all sitting there with their ears down, like โoh noโ. The same thing happened again the next day. NEVER again after that. I ended up ordering four more to cover the rest of the long couch and for the small couch. All I have to do is have the scat mats on the furniture at this point, I donโt even have to turn them on anymore. The dogs just see them and donโt even try to get on the furniture. That high sound is enough for them to stay off.

Works better than other options I have used
I currently use five of these to keep train two small dogs to stay off the furniture and the results have been effective when they are place. They make a high pitched beep similar to what a home fire alarm sounds like. After attempting to get on the furniture a few times, the dogs figured out that it was not going to fly and quickly get off. We are now at the point in training (about 2 months of use) where the mats alone are enough to detract them regardless if they are on or off. I prefer these to the other mats that we have for a number reasons. They are much larger (longer and wider), so fewer mats are required to cover the same area. It is easier to determine if the mat in on or off at a glance since the power switch is clearly labeled in contrasting colors rather than molded into the plastic housing. This mat also uses a large toggle style switch rather than a slider. This design is much more functional if you are a guy with short fingernails. My only reason for not giving this mat 5 stars is that the sensor does not include the entire mat surface. A few inches at either end are dead zones. One of my dogs has figured this out and will sometimes lay on the edge of the mat, just out of range of the sensor. While this won't be issue with a larger dog or even a large cat, this annoyance can only be avoided by purchasing additional mats. For now, I can deal with this issue since it infrequent, but it may become a problem for others.

This worked like a charm for my dog
We bought this because our 75 pound pit/boxer mix insisted on sitting in a white chair to look out the front window when we were gone. I started covering it with a blanket which kept it clean but didnt keep the dog out of it. I bought one of these, folded it to size and put it in the chair. I covered it with a blanket so he wouldnt think anything was different. He jumped in it twice while I was home and he hasnt been in it again. I have put some pillow on the chair so it would be obvious if he jumped up there again. Im so confident that he isnt getting back in the chair that I have moved it to in front of the door to keep him from jumping on the door. He has stepped on it twice and I dont think he has jumped on the door since. I'm not so confident in that, that I can take it away yet. Its narrow so a big dog can easily miss it when he is jumping on the door and I want to make sure its had its effect. Highly recommended.

Absolute works.
Worth the money and this absolutely works. This literally ended dogs on the couch! We have large dogs. They need to make one for pant legs for dogs that jump on people!

Works to keep dogs off; but lacks longevity
Iโm conflicted in writing this review. From a usability perspective I would give this 5 stars. It worked perfectly in keeping my dogs off the couch. However, itโs been only a little over a year since I got it and it stopped working.

Sanity saver - worked after one try
This has worked so well that I don't even need it anymore. Saved my sanity and maybe my marriage. My husband's 140lb Dogo Argentino LOVES the couch - any couch - and he would sneak on the sofas anytime we were out of the room (even though he has his own memory foam bed), leaving short white dog hairs, dog drool and God knows what else all over the sofa. We tried blocking the sofa with furniture, but often enough he would just climb over or under or on top of it and just sheepishly clamber down whenever we came back and inevitably yelled him off the couch. It clearly wasn't a long term solution, and the dog hair on the furniture was driving me nuts. We put the Sofa Scram down on one couch overnight, and also left the sofas blocked with furniture. Sure enough, in the middle of the night, he tried to climb on the couch. I was awakened by the loud beep and ran to the living room to find the dog with his front paws on the couch, frozen in surprise. This was enough to give me the chance to correct him *before* he actually completed climbing on the couch, and that's what was necessary to prevent future infractions. We still put the Sofa Scram down on both couches when we go to bed or leave the house just in case, but I haven't heard a beep, nor have I seen any dog hairs on the couch since. Our dog is a really fast learner, so it may take a few more tries with a different dog, but it seems like the sound was unpleasant enough even for a dog that's starting to lose his hearing that he's not interested in trying to get on the couch again.

Worth the money .. I have bought a second!
Early days but has kept the dogs off the sofa so far. I have ordered another one as it isnโt quite long enough for my very large sofa.

Works Great!
Sofa scram works great we donโt even have to turn it on anymore. The dogs see it on the couch they stay off and the product is less unsightly than some other deterrents.

Recommend, still works.
Works like a charm. Dog hate standing on it and jump off quickly. It's also funny when an unexpecting family member forgets it there and they freak out at the sound. The noise is awful though, but if we hate it then so do dogs. It folds up nicely too. Even without battery after a while it puts the dogs off jumping on it.

It worked!
This is great. I actually wanted to buy a few more to put on top of the bed. My dog fully stopped jumping on the sofa. Taking into account that he destroyed a sofa in the past, this has been a great step. After a couple of hours of using it, he stopped even trying to walk over it. As soon as he sees this on top of the sofa he just does not jump on anymore.
