You wont hear it
Great product and pump. Has a lot of strength and water flow is wonderful when you use it. Most of all its quiet and you don't hear it. I wish this company made a wavemaker. The size isnt too small for a nano tank making it easy to position. The larger sizes do tend to jump quite a bit in size and weight.

Great Product
Hi, I currently can not give my product five stars because I only have 5 days of usage. Product works fine , no noise whatsoever my fishes (Guppies) in my 20G high seem to not mind it at all. I put the powerhead a little below half way and it seems to reduce the flow for my guppies to swim at the top. Strong flow but not too intense, helped reduce my green hair algae in five days. Perfect for CO2 distribution. Update: Upgraded to Four stars since it's been working for two weeks. Some Hair Algae slipped thru the powerhead and at some time a part of a leaf but it's still working. Update : started making noises every now and then but stops after a while. I'm just going to leave the product at four stars but for the price this product is great.

Perfect, silent surface agitation & light flow
(Noise in video is from fan inside tank light, not wave maker) I purchased the 240 GPH one to create surface agitation to replace my air stone, and to create more of a shimmer effect in my tank. I was worried it might make too much current but it doesn't, and it is 100% silent! When I first plugged it in, it sounded awful, but after just a few seconds it became completely noiseless. My tank is directly bedside my bed and my filter is silent as well, so if this thing made any sound I would hear it. Another bonus is that the magnet attachment makes it super easy to move around, and I don't have to worry about it ever falling.

10 gallons or under, works awesome!
Rattling will stop if you let the slime coat build up. For a new tank, it will sound awful. This is great for 10 gallons and under. I like that once it's in the tank, you can move it a little by sliding the outside magnetic suction.

Does the Job but Noisy
The pump is extremely easy to install and plug in right out the box. Creates perfect current for my nano reef. The only reason im giving the 4 stars is because if the vibration noise. It is not quiet out of the box, it seems it needs to be plugged in for a period of time and have buildup over time for it to quiet down, however it does have its quiet moment's. Good alarm clock lol. But overall its great and does the job

Great for Nano tank!
Thanks to the reviews, I decided to give this pump a try for my 9 gallon Eheim Aquastyle saltwater nano. I've been in the hobby over 10 years - mostly heavily planted, aquascaped freshwater tanks in the past from 50g to 0.5g. I've always been very pleased with the Hydor products and this one is no exception. For the quality, price and function, this is a great pump, especially on Amazon. I wouldn't go cheaper with a more inferior brand or even a more costly one that does the same thing. I found other reviews with tank descriptions especially helpful so here's mine: my saltwater nano has 1 clownfish, 1 cleaner shrimp, cuc's and several soft corals of starburst polyps, kenya tree, pulsing xenia and mushrooms - live rock and 1 inch live sand (sand is more aesthetics). Eheim's tanks are beautiful on their own, so every accessory counts going in. Most importantly, I didn't want the other inhabitants blown in a circle or with such force that they would have to hide in a corner of rock. Sure enough, based on the reviews and other research on fish boards, the open flow of this pump is gentle enough in the tank for everyone. Based on my live rock formation, I have the pump on the back left side, a little lower than mid-tank directing current toward the opposite wall with the corner filter (sand gets kicked up if placed lower). The pump creates a soft current that wraps nicely around the rocks to give the corals a gentle sweeping effect in combo with the filter flow overhead. The starburst polyps have already grown larger in the past week and the CUC's are out and about more often in the light. Another benefit is that the sand has been cleaner too, even as I increased my light hours for better tank viewing in winter. Since I have only had the pump 2 weeks, I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars. As other reviewers mentioned, there is a slight hum to my otherwise nearly silent tank. But the animals all seem more lively and "happier" with the added flow so I'm keeping it. If the vibration gets much louder or circulation fades, I'll likely replace it with another one. Hopefully the sound remains minimal and pump lasts a couple years. If so, I would vote 5 of 5. Cheers and happy reef/fish keeping!

Great little pump with some minor noise issues that can be corrected with positioning
Great little pump: provides pretty solid circulation and my square and deep 30-gallon tank. I'm glad I decided to go with the 240 GPH pump rather than the larger one; I think the more powerful one would've been too strong for my tank. The pump is solidly built, and I love the magnetic "clips" or suction cups or whatever they're calling them. There's a suction cup on the pump that isn't actually in use when using the magnets (which are removable). I actually love this because it allows the pump to be very easily positioned without having to go through the process of peeling off a suction cup. Just pull of the exterior part of the "clip" and you can move the pump around extremely easily. Put the clip back and now you're set. My only reason for a 4-star review is that, occasionally, this thing can be extremely loud. I haven't quite figured out why it happens - I think it might be that the current gets a little turbulent and can cause some vibration. This is somewhat easily fixed with repositioning, and for the last day or so I've got in a position that makes it whisper quiet. However, when I first installed it, it would start off quiet and then gradually get louder and louder over the following hours until it was by far the loudest item in my tank (and I've got a pretty powerful air pump as well as an external canister). If you buy one of these and find this is a problem, try repositioning it, moving the cord, etc. until you can get it to work. All that being said, I would happily buy another one of these pumps. I'm very happy with the quality and the noise level once it's positioned.

Excellent pump for nano tanks.
I've had this pump before and they are top notch. Works perfectly in my 10 gallon cube, and is so much easier to hide smaller then the Fluval Sea stock circulation pump which is a lot bigger and more difficult to hide, I will be buying another to replace the Fluval one as 2 pumps work better then 1 at keeping up good flow on the display side. For the price point this is the best circulation pump you will find in my opinion. It's also not made in China like a lot of aquarium items are, but made in Italy which seems to provide a better quality product overall. I don't find the 240 bad for a 10 gallon cube when used in conjunction with another pump, not sure I would use just 1 240 in a 10 gallon and up though, but I always use 2 smaller pumps vs 1 larger one so I can get more random flow and for my purpose this size is perfect. Amazon's price was a bit higher, but with being a Prime member it still came out cheaper then another online store who was 3 dollars cheaper but would have charged 9 in shipping so despite the higher price on Amazon, it was cheaper in the end.

Not for UK
Amazon should not be selling this pump to UK consumers. It comes with a USA moulded plug and is rated at 115v 60Hz, not the 240v 50Hz that we operate on here in the UK. Didn't realise this until I had cut the moulded plug off and fitted it with a UK 3 pin plug. Plugged it in - the noise was alarming and at that point I realised that this pump is for USA market and not UK. Going to try to return this, but as I've cut the plug off I'm not so sure my return is going to be that successful - oh well :-(

Expensive but worthwhile
I started my aquarium intending to keep everything low budget, and pumps were one of the areas I cut costs. I used cheap $20 pumps for almost a year, and while they worked decently I wish I’d just got these to start with. The reason I finally upgraded was that my aquarium is in my bedroom and the cheap pumps were just too loud - these are barely audible and don’t bother me at all while I’m trying to sleep. Since upgrading, though, I’ve noticed I don’t have to fix the suction cups every two days and the water movement in the tank is much healthier. My old pumps pushed water out in a narrow cone, so even though they were half as powerful they made the water move fast enough I was concerned for my fish. These pumps push twice as much water, but they do it over a much larger area so the flow is never too fast in any spot. They also make the water flow much more randomly, which I’ve read helps corals. There’s a lot of areas in reef keeping that are overpriced and worth going cheap on, but I’ve learned that pumps aren’t one of them.
