When will microchip be available, instead of tag? My fat cat never keeps collar. Then will gorge. How do you switch tag & keep programmed to same cat?

There are no plans for an implanted chip version because detection is not reliable and take pets too long to activate the sensor. This upsets both the pets and the owners. The wireless tag attaches to the collar, it is very light weighing only 0.2 ounces. The feeder has Portion Control settings that divide the allowance in up to 24 smaller portions which are made available throughout the day, this prevents gorging. Wireless tags self register when they are detected by the feeder. The feeder will automatically measure and set the allowance of each pet separately, based on their behavior during a 1-3 day calibration. This feature is known as the AutoDiet Wizard. Are there any issues with the feeders responding to the tag transponders? Would it need more sensors? (Like some other bowls).  Thank you.

My two cats are NOT learning to use this.  They do not stand in front of the feeder with their tag 1) at exactly the right place 2) for the 10 seconds or so before the feeder doors open.  Help!!!

my dogs wear harnesses, im thinking that maybe it would work better attaching the tag right to the front of the harness.  Would that be better?

No it must be on the collar because the feeder senses when your pet lowers its head to eat.Dogs must be less than 18 inches tall and the distance from their nose to the wireless tag on the collar no more than 6 inches.The feeder is designed for all cats and small dogs.

Question 4

How does the machine know when a cat has reached his limit of food?  Is it by weight? If Cat A leaves some behind, does Cat B get to eat it?

The machine goes by time limits. I have 4 cats - 2 can eat as much as they want whenever they want. The other 2 however are limited to 10 minutes over a 24 hour period. It automatically closes when they have reached their time limit or step away.
