Rain Skirts, Ultra-Light rain Skirts, Waterproof Lightweight Short Skirts

Everyone has their own preference for raingear when they hike. I've tried lots of different combinations of rain suits, ponchos, jackets etc. I've settled on a light breathable rain jacket with pit-zips and this kilt because it's the best combination for ventilation, rain and wind protection and light weight. Of course your lower legs and feet can still get soaked, but there is no real solution for that anyway if you're out in prolonged rain, even with gaiters. I suggest you try one of these kilts, you might feel really silly wearing one, but you could be surprised how much drier your lower torso ends up compared your other hiking buddies! Then they might stop laughing so much.....

I haven't used this in the field yet, but I wanted to comment on prior reviews talking about how small this is. I'm 5'9" 160 lbs and this fit me with heaps of room to spare. In fact, I'm glad to have the buckle strap because I need it to cinch it tight enough.I measured the waist and it's accurate to the picture, about 44 inches. I had my housemate try it, who is 300+ lbs and it just barely doesn't fit him.

I had a chance to use this for the first time during an urban ride in a down-pour. The skirt protected me without making me too hot.

I was excited to get this. It fit alright, but needed some kind of closure to make it stay closed in the wind and rain. I was pleased with it for most of the day, but when I looked to see its waterproofness, I had a ring of water across my lap. So, it's not waterproof because that part of my body was covered. I thought I'd give it a try but save your money on this one.

This is a great little, light weigh skirt with nice functioning waist closures. The problem is the bottom of the skirt barely crosses over and would never function in the wind and rain. I'm about a size 10-12 in women's pants. 30 inch waist for jeans. This skirt claims it goes up to about 39 inch waist and can fit a man. Unless I got a defect, it's just an inaccurate description and photo. I'd say if you are very petite man or woman - it would be great.

While I haven't worn it in the rain yet, I did stand with this under running water from my shower hose. Does the waterproofing job well. Would be helpful if it was slightly more longer and even a bit wider. It does go around me (I wear L/XL clothing) but just enough. Would be nice to have more overlap but for small or medium folks will be great. Very compact and.lightweight and easy to carry in its little pouch. Just shake it off and the water dries off from it. I will add some sticky back velcro up to the knee level from waist so it doest fly in the wind and also.provides a bit more protection.
