Mkono 3 Pack Self Watering Planter African Violet Pots Plastic White Flower Plant Pot with Wick Rope for All House Plants, Flowers, Herbs, Large

I bought 2 african violets from Lowe's the other day and the poor things have leaf damage from being watered incorrectly; I just repotted them in these pots (photo taken immediately after repotting - I'm super new at this, these are my first violets). FYI I watched a few care videos and saw that you aren't supposed to disrupt the roots, and these Medium size pots fit my Lowe's 4" potted violets almost exactly - they apparently like being a bit root bound (not too bad, just a little) so I fit them into these pots by just adding a little AV-specific soil around the sides only (they are the same depth, so I left the bottom clear of new dirt), used the cheap store pots they came in to "mold" a hole, then removed the plants from the original pots and placed in the perfectly-sized hole, and gentle pressed into place. with a tiny amount of African violet specific potting mix, gave them a good watering/drained the excess after letting them sit a couple hours, and after taking this pic covered with plastic as I've seen on some tutorials to help them get established. I'll update once I know more, but they are already looking perkier after just 24 hours in these pots - the little leaves are stiffer/not as wilted sans the damaged parts, and poking up higher than they were when I first brought them home.

First Ordered September 2016: I have had these for two months and have had success with keeping African violets in them. I rescued a poor violet in an oversized pot. Broke it up into three pieces and they are now thriving and flowering. Can't beat the price for a 3 pack of these. A+ Value. Exactly what you need to keep soil moist without being too soggy. Edit May 2017: These work so well that I ordered more to handle the clones and 8 months later that one almost dead violet is now 6 perfectly happy violets in their own pots. 5 of which are blooming! Violets really do thrive in these with very little effort so I'm very pleased.

First off, let me be clear. I got what I paid for. The pictures provided by mkono are very accurate and I had no delusions. I love mkono. I have quite a few things from them that have held up phenomenally. And the wick rope system works, I've made plenty myself using just a Tupperware with a lid as a basin that my pot simply sits on top of. These aesthetically are much more pleasing of course, but some things to bare in mind. #1 - the inside isn't marked with a water level. Do the math and mark it first (I bought the large so I marked at 3" to err on the side of caution) OR you can be really clever and drill a hole into the side of the planter part that you can periodically drop a dipstick in to check the water level (could literally be a stick with a notch in it for how high the water level should be). #2 - the inner container is black. Since it's enclosed clear plastic would functionally have made more sense as then you could check the root ball as you pull it out to add water. #3 - they're a bit shallow, so plant accordingly. My pitcher plant is okay with this but even some herbs would stunt. IF you keep that in mind when you decide if this planter is what you need, then you should be happy.

I had little hope that these unusual pots would do anything to perk up my potbound and increasingly sad looking African Violets, but I ordered some special soil for them and these pots. Everything I'd read told me they like to dry out and overwatering will kill them. After about a month or so, they did perk up and bloomed again, the peakiest one growing new leaves! I'd never seen anything like the string hanging down into the water, but it seems to work. I only wish there were a way to see when they need more water, at least a clear "stripe" where you can look at the water level. Other than that, love it. Great idea that seems to be working.

These parts are sturdy well-made and easy to use. I have been using three of them for a few months and just bought three more. They are awesome! I am using the medium size. I probably could have gotten by with the small size, but I have high hopes of my African violets filling these pots. The only downside is the height of the pots which you have to have in order to hold the water. I recommend them to anyone who wants plants but forgets to water them. I plan to order another set of the large ones for a couple of ferns. I’ve had these several months now. Was gone for 2 weeks on vacation and the violets stayed hydrated with water to spare.

Update FEB 13, 2020: So I finally had my first plant death and it was totally because of these planters. It was a Schefflera umbrella plant and within a week of putting it in this planter it died. Never had that happen before with a Schefflera. I've downgraded my rating accordingly. Sizing: 1. Small is for seedlings or small succulents/cacti. Way too small for even a 4" plant. 2. Medium is perfect for a 4" plant. Do NOT add more soil, just move from store pot to this planter. Voila. 3. Large is perfect for 6" plant. However there is a LOT of space for water in this particular planter, too much imo, about 32 oz. I wouldn't put this somewhere a pet could knock it over because of all that water. Value: 1. Each size comes with 3 pots which is a great deal. 2. Each planter has three pieces: the bottom white part, the top black part with holes, and the string that hangs from the holes of the planter top into the planter base to absorb water. 3. Since each planter has 3 pieces you get a total of 9 pieces in each order. Ease of use: 1. Put the string through the holes so it lays across the bottom of the top black part and hangs from it. 2. Fill the white bottom with enough water that it almost reaches the black part but not quite. You DON'T want your plants sitting in water. It will kill them. 3. Take a piece of tape or a sharpie marker and marker just above that water line so you know how much water to put in the base each time you refill with water. 4. Move the plant from the store bought pot into the black top. 5. Put the top on the base and you're done. 6. Refill water once about every 3-4 weeks, less often with the LARGE size. Pros: 1. 3 pots per order which is a great price. 2. Visually appealing and blends with almost any decor. 3. Maintenance free. These clean up easily. Cons: 1. The white bottom for the LARGE is too high. About 32 oz of water fits in there which makes it somewhat unstable and easily knocked over. It's also unnecessary because even after a month, it's at least half full of water. 2. There's no size above LARGE if you have a plant larger than 6". I have some 8" and 10" plants that are way too big for this. :(

Compré este set de macetas hace tiempo (desde diciembre de 2023) y siguen perfectas. El sistema de riego automático funciona muy bien: las plantas se mantienen hidratadas sin necesidad de estar regando todos los días. Me encanta el diseño moderno en blanco con borde negro, combina con cualquier decoración y se ven muy limpias y elegantes. Son livianas pero resistentes, y el tamaño es ideal para plantas medianas. Las tengo dentro de casa expuesta a la luz solar ennel borde de una ventana y siguen como nuevas. Muy recomendadas para este tipo de plantas pues este tipo de macetas las mantiene siempre saludables.

My African Violets LOVE these pots! Plants thrive in these pots. We grabbed a scraggly half dead catnip plant from the garden at the last moment before we prepared it for winter, and it is now the largest catnip plant I have ever seen. My cat loves chomping on large fresh catnip leaves all winter long. These pots are easy to clean, and the little ropes make sure the plants receive consistent water to their roots. If you grow african violets these are the only pots to buy! My violets are producing big beautiful flowers and dark green leaves. They grow quickly in these pots, so I recommend buying a set of larger pots to replant them. Thanks!
