is the UB157 retractable?

Hi, no, you take the cap off , use it, put the cap on when you are finished to store. I love them, since I bought the first set in 2019 I have re ordered a number of times, to me, the ink lasts and love the fact that there is a window where you can see how much ink you have left. How much is a box of 12 of these pens

Is it scratching on paper through writing or smooth ?

my 13 year old has terrible handwriting but finds writing with these very smooth and not too much effort as ink flows well. No scratching on paper.
