Vinyl LP pressing. The Interstellar: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is a tremendously popular soundtrack, several years after it's initial release. The Interstellar: Expanded Edition features music from the film by composer Hans Zimmer, and will be available on LP with special etching, CD, and digital formats; and features additional music that was not available on the standard CD and digital releases of the original soundtrack.. Zimmer is considered a rock star in the composing world, having toured the world - including performing at the Coachella festival last year. The list of awards he has won would easily fill a full page. His award highlights include: Academy Award winner; 4x Grammy Award winner, 2x Golden Globe winner, Tony Award winner, American Music Award winner, Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Board of Review, ASCAP's Henry Mancini Award for Lifetime Achievement, and BMI's Richard Kirk Award for lifetime achievement, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A sample of Hans Zimmer's 200+ film credits: Interstellar, The Lion King, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Inception, Gladiator, Crimson Time, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight Trilogy. Review: One of my top ten soundtracks with a great presentation in Vinyl. - One of my top ten soundtracks. The packaging is very cool and I am very happy to add this to my vinyl collection. Hans Zimmer is well known for his soundtracks. One of the unique things about Interstellar is the use of a pipe organ in the recordings. There is a great video out there that talks about how the pipe organ was recorded for the soundtrack. Review: Ok - Pok

Great Version of the Full Soundtrack
This soundtrack is new recent release and contains a full (expanded) compilation of music from the movie. Other CD's had only a limited number of songs, where this version included extra. I love listening to this CD and find the music of Hans Zimmer really incredible. His work on this soundtrack in no exception. His use of large pipe organ was pretty magnificent. Don't settle for lesser CD's, this is the one you want... and price was really good.

Interstellar Soundtrack - Illuminated Star Projection Edition
After watching the film three times, once in theaters and twice after the blu-ray released, I knew I had to get the soundtrack for this film. After looking in stores for the soundtrack, no one was carrying it. Thankfully, they did not or else I would have unwittingly gotten the wrong edition of the soundtrack. Coming onto Amazon to order it, I then saw the reviews for the standard edition, indicating that it was missing one of the most important tracks “No Time for Caution” was not even on there. After doing some research, I discovered that there were only two ways to get that song, either buy the digital deluxe edition or buy the Illuminated Star Projection Edition. I personally like having physical copies of the discs, so I ordered the latter. When receiving the package, I did notice that the list of tracks on the back did not have “No Time for Caution.” The package said that there were 12 tracks on the 2nd disc and I was a little confused, but sure enough when I popped it into my CD player, it showed 13 tracks. While the “No Time for Caution” track is not listed, it is most assuredly on there as the last track. Hans Zimmer has quickly become my favorite modern-day composer. I own his soundtracks for all three of “The Dark Knight Trilogy,” “Inception,” “Man of Steel,” “Pirates of the Caribbean – The Curse of the Black Pearl” Not to mention thoroughly enjoying his work in so many other movies, as well. As far as this particular soundtrack – I think it is his most ambitious work yet. It certainly is one of the finest works he’s done in his career. To be approached by Christopher Nolan so early on in the film's production, it speaks volumes about his capabilities. Also, the fact that Nolan only gave a very vague premise of what the film he was doing equates an even more unhindered and even more inspired work by Zimmer. The use of the four-manual organ as the central emphasis makes this soundtrack so unique and truly one of the most aurally impressive soundtracks to date. I just can’t stop listening to this soundtrack. As far as the packaging goes I don’t hate it, but I also don’t care for it all that much. The box is simply too big. I do like the minimalistic all-black hard casing, but again it is just too bulky. The illuminating star part of the package simply has too much wasted space. This is supposed to be the reason why this edition is so expensive, but it just does not appeal to me all. It is a cool little feature to have the light blinking in Morse code, but I don’t think I will open it up to see, purposefully, more than once or twice more. Another neat bonus/feature that I am also enjoying is the Z+ Interstellar application voucher. Being able to put my headphones on and listen to the (standard) tracks in virtual 11.1 surround sound is very cool. According to Hans Zimmer, it is the closest way we are able to listen to his soundtracks like he experiences them when he mixes them. It’s just too bad that it’s only the standard tracks. I am hopeful that the DTS Headphone X technology will become more mainstream as it is a very cool way to listen. *Side Note* There are a few soundtracks that have Z+ apps associated with it and there is currently only one movie that has the movie (blu-ray) mixed for DTS Headphone X, which is “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.” However, the real reason I got this edition is for the extra tracks on the 2nd disc, and that is likely the only reason you would consider it, as well. Is it worth the extra money? The packaging is not, but for purists, fans of the soundtrack, and those who want the “complete” works, it probably is. Granted some of the tracks on the 2nd disc seem like extended versions of tracks on 1st disc, I still find them uniquely enjoyable to listen to. I don’t mind that I paid a hefty premium; I bought it so I can enjoy Hans Zimmer’s best work on my home stereo in full uncompressed quality.

A Fantastic Masterpiece
It's been talked about a lot how wonderful the music score of this awesome movie is, and if you're here you're probably already in love with the music itself and are wondering about the product, so I'll talk more about that: Besides the various criticisms on different versions of the soundtrack (regular, Deluxe, Illuminated Star Projection Box, etc.), Illuminated Star Projection Box is the most complete one you can find if you're after a collector's edition (and actually most of the movie's music pieces!). Although unlisted, the track "No Time for Caution" aka the Docking Scene is indeed included, and is #13 on CD2. What a shame that the marketing, from throwing different versions to the packaging itself, has done a poor job. The paste used for the battery pack of the projection box was of a low quality, and had already come loose during shipment. Fortunately the functionality is not affected and I can paste it again, but I expected a better assembly for something considered a collector's or Deluxe. Regarding the Z+Interstellar app, note that even for those who pay through IAPs, only the music on the regular CD is there and unfortunately CD2 - containing the "Docking Scene" - is not among the high quality files, which are around 400MBs worth of download and storage (one could assume they are lossless). It's also worth mentioning that: 1) You can only use the included voucher ONCE and on only one device, meaning that activation on your for example phone doesn't mean you have access to the files also in your tablet. So choose carefully on which one of your devices you activate the voucher. 2) You need a high quality headphone, possibly with an amplifier depending on your headphone, as well as a device with good-enough performance to fully enjoy the Z+app version of the scores. Moreover, check you've got enough storage space in your device, because deleting the files and re-installation or re-activation later is not possible. (at least this is the warning I got from the website when I was activating the voucher). If your device is rooted, you could try backing up the app WITH data, which includes the files, using a good back up app like Titanium Backup, and try restoring the whole (app+data) later, but I personally haven't tested this to know whether it works or not, so again: choose your device carefully! Thank you Christopher and Hans, awesome job as always [double thumbs-up]
