Successfully extends the cable length for my Valve Index
I purchased this along with 3 other DisplayPort and USB extenders (and a DisplayPort coupler) to try to extend the display for my Valve Index. My tests were NOT exhaustive, but all 4 of the options worked. In addition to reviewing this product, I'm also detailing the other options I tested, including price. For anyone else looking to extend their VR system, I hope this helps. In all cases there was no discernable loss of visual or audio fidelity or dropping of frames. Cable length doesn't introduce lag/latency, so no worries there. But ONLY the active DP connector successfully transmitted the signal to the headset successfully / without snow. THIS PRODUCT: USB (5m) ($15.99) - CableCreation Active USB Extension Cable (Long 16.4 FT). Works great, as expected. OTHER PRODUCTS: DisplayPort (10m) ($98.99) - ATZEBE Fiber Displayport Cable 30ft, Fiber Optic Displayport 1.4. This cable diameter is remarkably small, but it performed equally to the 5m LINKUP cable with a wider gauge. The connectors / cable heads produced heat as soon as the cable began transmitting data. This may be by design for thermal management; but if it's not by design this could be problematic. Other than that the cable seems to work perfectly. DisplayPort (5m) ($39.96) - [LINKUP] DisplayPort DP8K DP1.4 Cable (VESA Certified). This cable is kinda thick and very well built. It did the job. USB (10m) ($35.99) - Cable Matters Active USB Extension Cable Male to Female. This worked to extend the VR range even without being plugged in. Note that a power adaptor is NOT included, which legit sucks. But thankfully the Index worked fine without the power boost. DP connector (0m) ($19.99) - Cable Matters DisplayPort Repeater (DisplayPort Signal Booster, DisplayPort Amplifier). This successfully extended the signal an extra 10m for my Valve Index headset. DP connector (0m) ($11.99) - Cable Matters 2-Pack DisplayPort to DisplayPort Coupler. This DID NOT WORK to extend the length of my Index cable. Worked with Oculus Link on my computer :-)
I bought this to use with Oculus Link. It is connected to my computer to an USB 3.0 port on one end and is then connected to an Anker Powerline USB C to USB 3.0 (recommended by Oculus on their site) onthe other end that connects to my Oculus Quest. This combination works perfectly on my old 2012 computer ([email protected],16GB RAM, 980 ti, MB w/ 4 USB3.0 ports). I get 1.7-1.8GBs using the bandwidth test in the Oculus software. So far I have not had any dropped connections while playing but I must admit that I have only used the Oculus Link feature for about 5 hours so far. I just recently purchased my Oculus Quest so I haven't had time to test this setup more then 5 hours. I tried 3 different cables that were recommended by YouTubers and people on Reddit but non of them worked. This extender with the Anker Powerline USB C to USB 3.0, recommended on the Oculus site, is the only cables I have had any success with. With the extra 16.4 feet this cable adds to the 10 foot cable I am using I have plenty of cable length for VR gaming. 10 feet seems like plenty of length for VR gaming but it runs out really fast. If you want to play VR gaming and don't want your cable ripped out of your computer or VR headset this is your best bet. So if you you're like me and want to use Oculus Link to play PC VR games get this cable extender now.

Works great!
Used this in conjunction with another adapter to add some length to my Quest link cable. It didn't have any issues affecting games, but because it's not a powered extender it is not able to charge the Quest 2 at the same time you are playing. I've since been using it as an extension for my webcam and have had no issues there either.

Works with Oculus Link but isn't capable of full power charge
Like the title, I am using this extension plugged directly into a USB 3.1 Gen2 port directly into my motherboard. Don't use front ports and yes I know this is only USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 Gen1 cable. While using this with a Oculus Quest for Oculus Link I get a slow battery drain from the quest so this cable is unable to sustain the amperage required for charging while using the Quest. It may be because of my setup. I will know after I receive the Anker 10ft A to C cable. Caveat: I am using a USB type A male to type C female adapter and a 10ft type C to type C cable. I suspect the additional questionable quality of the adapter I am using is contributing to the inability to keep the Quest fully powered. I will amend the review once I get more cables to test.

Worked Well For Me
I needed an extension to a microphone's usb cable when doing a surround sound optimization analysis. The cable length at about 16 feet gave me the flexibility I needed, and more importantly, all readings were transferred from my microphone to my laptop perfectly. It did exactly what was promised. Good quality. Very satisfied.

A powered USB cable makes a difference.
I needed an active high speed USB extension cable for planetary astrophotography and this one did the trick. A passive cable would not transmit the signal over a distance of 16 feet and the maker of the camera said I needed an active USB 3.0 cable. The other option would be to use a USB powered hub.

Perfect answer to problem
I’m an astrophotographer and my usb 3 cable from laptop to cameras was 13ft. I was getting periodic disconnects. After replacing with this cable with 16ft plus 3ft usb b cable. I can run both my Asi533mc and asi120mc through the cable at the same time no problem. Works perfectly.

Great for Oculus Rift Sensors, but not for the HMD.
Ordered these for Oculus Rift for more cable length. The quality is great, I like braided cables a lot. Both the Oculus sensors work great on these cables and report being USB3 after connecting to these which is perfect. The reason for the 3 stars is because these cables DO NOT work with the Oculus HMD itself. Although there are no reported errors detecting the HMD plugged into this cable, for whatever reason this cable causes the audio to cut out. No extension cable HDM video, audio, tracking is 100%. Plug it into one of these and audio goes out after a minute of use. Others have found the same issue and I'm not sure why this would be happening but it doesn't change the fact that it is. So I would not recommend these for the HMD itself, but they are great for the sensors.
