Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion

So much in the box, long and engaging campaign. Mechanic is really nice, and initial few scenarios teach you the game well, while the game increases its complexity along the way. Good balancing mechanics for more players, so just as good for 4 as for 2.

This is the most complex game I've played so far (I own Lords of Waterdeep, Wings, Pandemic, Istanbul, 7 Wonders Duel). But once you get your head around all the moving parts it's good fun. Honestly, you need to watch a YouTube video that explains it, because it's just easier than going through all of the rules, glossaries etc. The pieces work well, but you might struggle with organising the various types of cards, and getting everything back into the box at the end isn't as easy as it could be.

Entry level Gloomhaven, but it's still a beast of a game - This is something that any dungeon crawler fans should own, and any general gamer should at least try. This is a classic 🤓

Very fun game! It has provided my wife and I hours and gameplay. We couldn't find a local D&D group or another similar game for just two players, so this was the perfect replacement. It is fairly time consuming to initially set up and get the hang of playing the game, but the set-up instructions and play guide introduce the rules as you play! It may be slightly complicated for younger children. For the price, it has provided hours of fun! A very fun game if you're into D&D and that type of thing.

Ok so if you have played Gloomhaven this is a nice little extra that can be played outside of the main game. The maps are drawn within a booklet so no rummaging in the box for the correct map piece. So set up in a lot quicker. Game play is identical as the full game but for those who have never played before the book guides you through the first 4 maps slowly introducing you to the intricacies of the game.

Haven't played board games since a kid. Read about Gloomhaven when searching for a game that can as a one player. However, that is an expensive gamble if one does not enjoy it. Jaws of the Lion is apparently less complicated and an excellent game overall.

The game itself looks amazing, the quality of the figures, the map and everything looks perfectly painted and assembled. Quite heavy box tho. The only issue i have is that the box and the lid of the game came broken, as you can see in the picture. And as the box is actually a part of the game itself as it is holding everything in place, being also collectible, this is a dissapointment. Amazon arranged a replacement, but the time waiting to get the new game delivered and the already missed gaming event with my family and friends because i had to not use the game to return it and get my replacement, is very unpleasant. This is why it is just 2 stars.

This is an amazong way to learn the game and try to see if you will fully like it before buying the full game. So far amazed about the game. The fantasy and adventure is almost only in the background, what is amazing about this game is the strategy and the mechanics. Be aware of loads of admin, make sure one of the players really like organization and keeping tracknof everything. Will recomend anyone to buy this first before investing in Gloomhaven. Another thing to add, love the fact of the maps/board withing the campaign book, not more dealing with a thousand tiles to build different scenarios

Different folks different strokes I guess. I preferred Bloodborne the board game in terms of fighting with decks.

This is one of the highest ranked games on BoardGameGeek.com. The game is a slightly simplified version of the full Gloomhaven game. It does a great job simplifying the game in multiple ways. 1. You play on the actual book, instead of putting together cardboard map pieces. Also the book includes objects identified on certain spaces. This saves an incredible amount of setup time. It takes so long in the original game to set up all the map pieces, the doors, the rocks, the water hexes, etc. This eliminates all that! 2. It actually teaches you how to play the game while you are playing it. You start off with simplified versions of the cards. As you play through the scenarios, you replace the simplified cards in your hand with the actual cards that you will continue with throughout the rest of the game. It is so easy to play through AND learn the game as you are doing it. There are quite a few learning scenarios included. By the time you are through those scenarios, you are ready to play the actual game. This is a MUST for any person interested in D&D or other rpgs. You get to create and level a character, gaining experience and new abilities, acquiring new items and developing strategies to get you and your party through the scenarios. There is normally no permanent death (unless you choose to play that way) - your character just gets "knocked out". An incredible amount of fun! Easily worth the price!
