Makita XFD01 18V Lithium-Ion Compact Drill Driver (Bare Tool, No Battery or Charger)

My girlfriend bought me this drill a couple of years ago. I'd never had a Makita but always wanted one. I knew of their quality and reliability for years, but never could justify the expense. I wound up with one for my birthday and loved it, though didn't get much opportunity to use it before the warranty expired. Unfortunately, I must have gotten the one bad one at that time, and it just locked up. I had given up, until I found this one on Amazon. I ordered it and it works perfectly. Much cheaper alternative to replacing the whole set, since I had the two batteries and charger and case already. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Love having cordless tools and this drill delivers. I have both the large and thinner rechargeable batteries and hit works well with both. My husband is a contractor and uses the Mikita cordless tools including the skill saw, reciprocating saw, and this drill. (He also has the makita cordless leaf blower which he uses to clean out gutters and to dry his sports car after washing it.) This drill is perfect for homeowner projects yet has held up with daily use on the job site. Batteries are a little pricey and you have to remember to put on the charger the night before. :) Would recommend and purchase again.

My original drill from the 2 piece combo had an unfortunate run in with a concrete floor. It still works but now makes a loud gear grinding noise. I don't think it should've been damaged by a 3' drop but oh well, stuff happens. The replacement from Helton Tool was shipped promptly and appears to be brand new. No signs of use on it whatsoever. In fact, this one has much less runout at the chuck jaws than the original. Very tempted to buy another.

Nothing is life is perfect, the drill did just fine.

I bought this to replace the earlier version of the same drill. I had the previous one for a few years of light, home use when the gear mechanism cracked. Rather than deal with the cost and hassle of repair, I just bought a new one. Less than 2 months of light use later, this one stopped working as well. I have no idea why. I tested the batteries in other devices and they work fine. The LED comes on but the drill does nothing. I bought several Makita tools on the ardent recommendation of others but this is really disappointing. None of them have wowed me and they're way overpriced for the seemingly low quality. UPDATE: Since I purchased this just over 30 days ago, I can't process this through Amazon. I called Makita and they pointed me to the closest service center which is over an hour away and difficult for me to get to. I asked if they could send me a replacement since I'm in the middle of a project and they said no. I explained that it was difficult for me to get to their service center and the only other option they offered was to mail it in...at my own expense. At this point I'm not what's worse, their product quality or their customer service.

I've owned the older version of this drill for probably a decade. I decided that I spend too much time changing bits back a forth and needed another drill. I did the research and decided that this is among the best drills of its type, so I now have two of these. What I must appreciate about this drill is the balance. The ergonomics of it are wonderful.

Great tool. I have the sister impact driver so I got this bare tool as I have the battery. Perfect for my needs and giving a break to my smaller yet overworked Ryobi driver drill. The only drawback was they sent the wrong user manual.

I have the same model and needed a second drill. So instead of getting a different one, with a different charger, I opted for this, drill only. It arrived perfect. Very pleased. Works great. The description, in the ad, when you click on “3 used,” states “100% brand new never used xfd01 (was part of a combo set). That’s just what it looks like. No hand stains on the white, like it is on my other one. Super fast shipping. Great seller.
