Perfect for old pc cases.
These are made to fit 3.5 inch floppy drives or USB/Card readers into a 5.25 inch CD/DVD opening on the older pc cases. They still make a few new cases with the CD/DVD opening but it is fewer and fewer every year. They are made of plastic and since they just sit in a drive bay I don't think there would ever be a problem with them. I use them to mount USB-C, USB 3.0 and card readers above the CD/DVD opening. I would definitely purchase these again. Great product!

It was ok
It worked like how it should. A little flimsy but it was fine

Product is sufficient. Packaging not so much . . .
Sufficient for its use. It came broken in two places as it was packaged in a box with a bulky, heavy object with very little extra padding. This is not the fault of the delivery person - the way it was packaged it was inevitable the product would suffer damage to some extent. That having been said, I think I can repair the item well enough for it to function.

Required slight modification to the width of the drive slot
I purchased this adapter to install a 3.5" USB 3.0 panel/card reader into a new case with only 5.25" drive bays. It should work well, but the device installation was more difficult than expected. The actual width of the drive opening in the bracket is about 4 and 1/32 inches. My card reader's front face measures about 4 and 1/16 inches. The card reader fit in my old computer tower with 3.5" drive bay just fine, but to fit in this bracket, it required the sides of the drive slot to be sanded.

front panel hole too small
I had to file the short edges of the opening to make a 3.5" faceplate fit flush in the hole. The hole was just under 4 inches wide and was just enough to make the plastic faceplate bend outward. The other dimension was fine. No hardware so you have to scrounge your own screws. It is not worth the trouble.

It does the job, but the mounting hardware is next to useless.
I bought a bunch of these for a project I am working on. They were the cheapest I could find, and it shows. Granted, they do the job they are intended to do - allow you to mount a 3.5" device in a 5.25" bay. But the screws they provide in the kit baffle me. First of all, the mounting screws for the bracket itself are self tapping screws because the mounting holes in the bracket are not threaded, they're just holes in the plastic. The screws are also a little bit too small for the size of the mounting hole. Because of this, more often than not they go all the way in and then strip out the hole with barely any force. And that makes it a huge pain when you go to remove the screws, as you have to help the screw back out of the hole while turning it with a screwdriver. Also, the mounting screws they provide for the drives are the coarse thread that you'd find in a hard drive. But who is mounting hard drives with this? The more likely use case is a floppy or zip type drive which would need fine thread pitch screws. It would be nice if they provided both screw types.

Fits, easy install
It fit in my computer case perfectly and the device I mounted fitted perfectly as well.
