Groundhog's Dilemma

I got this book for my son who has difficulty saying "no" to people for fear of hurting their feelings. Things had gotten so bad that he was refusing to go to school for fear of these difficult situations with some of his friends being very strong personalities.We have always used stories to reach out to him during trying times. A little humor, bright pictures, and a story (set to verse sometimes) has always helped these situations. This one too seemed to help me get through to my son, we discussed the groundhog's dilemma. However, my son didn't think any part of the book was funny, despite my best effort to do voices for each character. He is dealing with saying "no" much better than he was, but I am not sure it was just the book that helped with that. He has never asked me to read this book to him again. Which makes me feel like this is not a story that inspires him, or makes him laugh... he could relate to the story, but that was that.I agree with the other reviewer who speaks of the only female character in the book being a poor representation and I too cringe when I read those bits to my son. I usually read to my son with voices for each character but when I read the hare's character I tend to read it completely flat and devoid of emotion. Oh well.The three stars are for the artwork, and the book is easy (and fun) to read out loud.

Kris Remenar is a great children's author. In this book, she manages to present to children a problem that even adults can identify with: the notion of trying to please everyone and how impossible that is. It's a good lesson anyone can learn from. I really enjoyed this and recommend that everyone out there purchase this book.

I gave this book as a Christmas gift to two families, each with a 4-year-old and a 7-year-old. They loved the story. Their parents liked the lesson it teaches, and commented on how much they liked the illustrations also.It's very appropriate for ages 3 to 7, but not limited to those ages."Groundhog's Dilemma" will be enjoyed by children of many ages.

GROUNDHOG'S DILEMMA contains a lesson, no doubt, but the story is so carefully crafted, it isn't heavy handed in any way. It's a joy to read, again and again. The adorable illustrations beautifully complement the text and are full of subtle details that invite young readers (and adults) to pause and enjoy the fun, unexpected surprises to be found on each page.

I had to read it before it was a gift for my young granddaughter. I loved the book, it's story line and the artwork is fantastic. She will love being read this book. Lots of wonderful faces and eyes to make her smile (she is only 5 months old now). I almost didn't want to give it away.

I've met the author and the illustrator. I also happen to love the imagery and the story overall. Also, this should be considered a great story-time book for toddlers, too.

Really cute book, but I wouldn't recommend purchasing it on kindle. It's difficult to read. If I had known how difficult it was, I would have ordered a hard copy.
