Extremely easy to set-up & use
For someone that isn't too savvy with computers I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this unit is to install. It plugs into your computer via a USB-A connector. Since my Apple laptop is newer it only has a USB-C connector, but Amazon sells a USB-C to USB-A adapter. Once the scanner was plugged in, it automatically turned on and showed up on my desktop. It asked if I wanted to update the software and I did (very easy to do). From there, it worked perfectly. This works exactly as it should. It scans both sides of the pages, straightens pages, can skip scanning on blank pages, etc.. As other owners have mentioned, if you are using multiple pages it can get a little tricky. However, I have scanned up to 10-pages and most times it does not have any issues feeding them thru. Sometimes, it may feed 2 pages at a time vs 1, but as long as you are watching it it isn't an issue. The unit scan incredibly quickly. Just a matter of seconds and it will scan both sides of up to 10-pages. Very impressed with this unit. It folds down very small, and I also purchased a travel case for it.

Good Quality and Fair Performance for the Price
I needed something compact to store and use in a small area, but I also wanted something that wasn't overly expensive. This is one of the better scanners I've used. Depending on the paper quality, ink quality, and flatness of the paper, 20 sheets can easily scan through without issue. I found that specific types of paper and ink tend to stick together and did require me to rescan a few pages until I got into the groove of how this scanner performs. The image quality was good. It does have issues scanning colored highlighter on pages; this would not be the model to use if that's a concern. I appreciate the software being in the scanner; it allowed me to very quickly plug in and get scanning. I've used it to scan over 1200 pages of various pages/ink types in a single day. The scans are quick and clear. The double-sided scanning is a game-changer compared to the single-sided flat bed scanner I was using before.

Price was Too Good to Be True, Sadly
Sadly, this is not the scanner you are looking for. Most every scanner on the market nowadays can work with Windows, Mac, AND Linux. I have all three systems, and every other portable scanner I have had works on all three. This one, however, was a great-looking deal but even Canon said "yeah, no Linux" for this which was why it was purchased in the first place. Sadly, it also has antique connections - using the outdated and frustrating USB Mini-A 2.0 which has not been seen nor heard of since the days of Blackberry. Quality was ok, durability cannot speak to, though it lacks on versatility and instructions were very cryptic and non-existent for Linux use (as a matter of fact, Canon even bold faced lies on its site on the capabilities of this device in terms of Linux, making one believe that it will work. As such, I could not speak to image quality as it was not able to be leveraged correctly - as versatility is clearly lacking, I would pass this up as a price that is "too good to be true" and simply move along and find something better.

great portable scanner
I work hybrid remote, so I needed a good scanner that travels well. This fits great in my backpack (with case purchased separately), connects easily via USB, works quickly and scans both sides of the document in one pass. The software is simple with no installation or apps required and fits my needs perfectly, with capability to customize how the files are saved by default. Great scanner, I couldn't do my job without it.

Decent
I used this for the first time today for a trust signing. Very simple to set up and get started, a positive that it does not need its own power cord, it will draw power from laptop. Downside is that if you have more 2 or 3 pages to scan you’ll have paper jams and trouble with the feeder. The feeding tray is sensitive. It’s a little finicky and you have to play with the page sometimes to get it to scan. I think because it’s compact, there’s a trade off on the quality of the feeder. Not a deal breaker . But if you have heavy duty scanning jobs, I would recommend the scansnap, it’s bulkier and more expensive and not super easy to transport (although still possible) and it’s more expensive but you can put 40plus pages in the tray with no issues. I have both. I’m going to keep this canon for remote signings that I have with low paper volume. Image and color quality is good and it’s lightweight

This Scanner Is Actually a Joy to Use!
This little scanner was well worth the extra money! It's perfect for what I needed, especially after trying another scanner from a different brand that was VERY confusing, had to download this and that, etc., before you could use it. Setup for this Canon scanner was: open box, open document feeder, plug in, load documents, scan! It has BUILT IN software - no need to go to various sites to download sketchy looking drivers, etc. I had two large documents scanned and emailed within 15 minutes of taking it out of the packing box! Power source is USB cord. The image quality is extremely good, and the instructions were, thankfully, SO easy to follow. I don't know how long this scanner will last, but hopefully it will be durable. Canon is a good name, in my opinion, and I'm very impressed with the automatic document feeder and the duplex scanning. Went through a 15 page duplex document that had been stapled for several months without even a hiccup. Thank you, Canon, for having the foresight to make your portable scanner a joy to use!

Not recommended for Mac due to software
Scan quality is very good generally. It's not perfect and manages to skew and distort slightly (most apparent if you're trying to match up a scanned document to an invisible text layer from the unsigned original). Automatic document feed is OK but not amazing; with documents that were previously stapled it will often drag multiple sheets through at once. The device is very compact, which is helpful. It's a little annoying, and a sign that this thing is fairly dated, that it uses micro USB instead of USB-C. This software makes this device extremely difficult to use. I don't know if it's a Mac-specific issue, or if it affects Windows as well, but the built-in CaptureOnTouch Lite software is exceptionally finicky, particularly after updating to Sequoia. Often, when you start a scan, it just locks up and doesn't start scanning; your only solution is to force quit the app and relaunch. Sometimes you need to disconnect and reconnect the scanner from your computer entirely. What's worse is there's no third-party or open-source software solution (as far as I've found) for this device. I do not know if an update will ever be coming either. The current version of 3.5.23.1120. I do not recommend this device if you have a Mac.

Makes my job in healthcare easier
This is one of the best scanners I have ever worked with. It is compact and lightweight, scans crisp images, can handle a decent amount of sheets along with drivers licenses/insurance cards, etc. As a mental health practitioner who needs something directly plugged into my computer for HIPAA compliance, this was an amazing solution. The software just shows up when you open the device, so there is no setup, and no power cable as it just uses your laptop. Works with my computer and with my coworkers computer (very compatible) as well. Seems to be made of decent material, although you have to make sure you remember to close the paper guides before you shut the lid, as those are just plastic. I encouraged two others to buy one of these, so I am highly satisfied with this purchase. Definitely one of the better purchases I have made.

Fonctionnement
