PNY ThinkSafe Portable MacBook Locking System (P-TSAL1-RB) The PNY ThinkSafe Portable MacBook Locking System (P-TSAL1-RB) fits perfectly on my Macbook Pro 13” and serves as a deterrent. This locking system fits nicely into my on-the-go lifestyle. The convenience of PNY ThinkSafe locking systems is a luxury addition to my Apple MacBook Pro. I could just as easily ensure my Apple devices are always within my eye sight and not ever left unattended. But I like the idea of having this anti-theft deterrent should I ever had to leave my laptop unattended out of my eye sight (which probably is unlikely). Gives me a sense of security if ever the time should come I need to use it. I did research other locking systems but I chose PNY ThinkSafe Locking System due to its: 1) combination lock (did not want keys); 2) sturdy cable (straight not curled); 3) easy installation and does not require me to unscrew any part of my laptop to anchor the lock. The part of the lock is a metal plate that is inserted between the laptops keyboard and screen. The fear would be the thin metal plate would scratch my laptop screen or the part of the keyboard body where the insert rest. I tested the thin metal plate between the body of my laptops keyboard and the screen and it does not appear to inhibit the opening or closing of the laptop; nor does it appear to scratch the screen or body. However, I will wrap a small thin but sturdy piece of felt around the metal plate to make me feel better. In conclusion, this locking system I consider a luxury item but I am glad to have it. Because it is a well made product, and because I believe this product serves its design purpose, I give it a five star for its practical application.

The lock is solid and well made and the bracket works just fine with a Retina Macbook Pro. With some finesse you can "guess" the first two combination numbers on the lock. The third and forth dials cause the lock to "click" loudly as the assembly incrementally moves from locked to open across the last two digits. A spring mechanism wants to open the lock, and the rotating dials allow passage one at a time, at least the last two. So without any effort on the user's part, aside from sequentially rotating the combination dials, the lock will open automatically, guiding the user. At most it will take a complete novice no more than 100 combinations (first two digits), and a quick rotation of the third dial before they know they have it. PNY support was even able to hear the "click" over the phone. I ordered a second lock and had the same issue. Very disappointing, I don't like the 5 or so other lock options available at present. The combination can't be changed.

I believe that this is a better idea than a case added onto the computer. And for this good price, I have to say, this product does a good enough job. I'm trying to lock my 15'' mackbook pro with retina display. the only issue is that the angle of the link is a little bit awkward. When I put the computer directly on my desk, I found it very likely that the lip of the link will scratch my computer. In order to prevent this from happening, I wrapped the lip with 3M magic tape and I feel safe now. Since I put the computer on a stand most of the time, it is not a big problem for me. But I really hope the manufacturer could find a even better solution in the future versions. And the manufacture made the code of the lock unchangeable, a design I don't really appreciate. Another thing is that the lock itself could be made smaller. At present, it's a little bulky. Anyway, I think this is the best lock for now if you don't want to add an additional plastic dock.

Happy with the purchase, needed a method of locking up my Macbook Air 11 in the office and there appeared to be so few options. I did, and sometimes still do, find the connector a little fiddly and I certainly would not leave it attached all the time but it is at least a very neat solution. I found that the first time I used the lock I had to trust that the metal slide, which goes through the hinge area on the Mac, was not going to damage the Mac or break any connections. Once however I got over that initial fear and after trying various ways or moving the screen to find the easiest angle I am happy. The cable supplied is as think as any other cable lock and not too heavy and the combination lock is easy to use in a coffee shop etc...

Since Macbook Airs (et al) lack standard holes for Kensington-style locks (way to go, Apple!) the PNY is supposed to slip around the hinge for the display. I couldn't make that happen. I'll try again on my MBA and maybe try on someone else's.... but so far, it's back in the box. Too bad - I'm going to be travelling, probably with the MBA, and would be a handy thing to have working.

It is hands down the best solution for locking a laptop without the classic security slot. Some other reviewers noted that it may be difficult to insert, it may not let your computer sit flat or it may scratch surfaces. At least with my 15" retina Macbook pro, I am not seeing any of these problems. I inserted it right on the first try (perhaps 5 seconds time), it does not raise this computer, and I don't think it has a significant risk of producing bad scratches around (maybe you should be careful just with very delicate surfaces). The only thing is that it remains slightly less convenient than a classic lock going into the security slot; but for laptops without such slot I think this it is by far the best option (certainly better than paying 50-70 dollars and having to add an unsightly plate on the bottom of the laptop you bought specifically because it was so thin and light!).

Happy with the ease of set up. Don't know (would have to be convinced) if it would deter a would be thief but hopefully I won't encounter this problem!

El candado de seguridad es perfecto para el Macbook Pro Retina 13". Sencillo de poner y de quitar. El detalle de la bolsa para el transporte es muy bueno. Solo una pega, no se puede modificar el código del candado. Articulo muy recomendado para proteger tu Mac.
