Perfect shell, amazing price. That’s great value.
This Key Fob shell worked perfectly for my 2008 Prius, works the exact same as my original fob before I replaced the shell, even fits perfectly into the insert slot in the Prius! All lock buttons continue to have full functionality. I also carved out a recessed spot to glue in the old Toyota logo (not required for use, just a fun touch- does require substantial effort to do so) This fob is built very durably, I dropped it while putting it together and no issues whatsoever. It looks clean and fresh. The shipping was super fast as well. When transferring the innards of the old fob, be sure to transfer the chip, circuit board, battery, the rubber seal from battery opening, and physical key. If you’re unsure of how to do any of this, go ahead and watch a video on YouTube, there are plenty. Also you’ll have to physically break open your OEM key fob in order to access the parts since the original’s halves are glued together. Also I’d recommend adding a little piece of the plastic bag to the corner where the light is in the corner to block the hole from dust and grime.

Patience and persistence pays off! It works!
I lost one of my two original 06 Prius key fobs. I was told to go to Car Keys Exchange at a nearby Costco. When I got to the kiosk, the vendor told me that they don’t provide the service for 06-09 Prius. The vendor was very helpful and suggested I buy this key fob replacement on Amazon. I did and programmed the new fob per the included instructions. It worked! The car turns on and the doors open and lock. I had to try it a few times with the programming, but persistence paid off. I’m taking the open door key to a local car lock vendor to have the duplicate key cut. Hopefully, this key fob replacement will be as durable as my original key fob made in 2006.

DON’T FORGET to move the small chip over to the new case in addition to the circuit board!
IMPORTANT- there’s a small chip in your old FOB case that is separate from the circuit board. MAKE SURE YOU MOVE THIS OVER TO THE REPLACEMENT FOB CASE! It’s easy to miss and if you don’t you’ll end up with a key that fob that only starts the car if it’s NOT inserted into the key slot. This unit is great though, no glue required, swapped mine over in under 10 minutes.

Works but be careful
It comes without any instructions, but one can get help in setting up the key fob on the internet. But be careful about the steps involved in moving the circuit board of the old fob to the new one. The steps involved are: 1. Remove the key. This involves sliding a tab on the end where you would hang a house key and pulling the house key. The tab is very tight. 2. Open the tab again and push up on the side without the buttons. You should eventually get it off. 3. Remove the 4 (tiny) screws and the square plastic piece that covers the battery. 4. Remove the battery. 5. Now comes the hard part. It is difficult to open the old fob. I used a knife and pried and had to work the seam open. When you have it open carefully remove the circuit board. 6. This step is not on any of the videos that I watched at one end there is a small trapezoidal piece. Remove it and carefully put it with the circuit board. I didn't do this step at first and when I was done the new fob did everything but start the car. Now it's time to move the circuit board to the new fob. 7. Put the circuit board in the part of the new fob that has the buttons on the other side. You will notice the trapezoid shaped place on the new fob is empty. Put the mystery piece in the same place it was in the circuit board. There is also a little white piece on the old fob that is not on the new one. Put it on the new one. 8. Now attach the piece that holds the battery. It just clicks in place. 9. I would put a new battery in the fob. 10. Using the new screws attach the square plate. 11. Slide the piece with the tab that releases the key into place (this involves holding the tab open while sliding the piece in place. 12. Put the key in the place it was on the old fob. I replaced two fobs in this way. Both were successful after the insertion of the mystery trapezoid. Both would do everything but start the car without it. The new fobs replace old ones where the outside buttons were peeling off. The replacement is very nice, seems robust and will probably out last my 2006 Prius.

New life for old fobs
Worked perfectly. Disassembling my original fob was a bit of a challenge but once it's open you just transfer the inner workings of the it into the replacement fob, being sure to include that little piece of what looks like a magnet. It looks so good it looks just like new.

Did not work and ruined my working fob
Spent 2+ hours on this, went over every internet suggestion and it will not work. Should have been fine for my 2008 Prius but it refuses to work wirelessly on the door locks. I did get it to work when plugged into the ignition, but that doesn't really matter if i cant get into the car in the first place right? Honestly id be fine if it JUST id the doors. Not sure if i got a dud or what but buy at your own risk. P.S. the one key i do have that worked fine for starting the car from my pocket before this... somehow in the process of trying to program this spare key my main key no longer works unless its slotted into the ignition now. So, no spare, my original is less functional, and im out 60$. Amazing.
