Replaces Ideal 61-310. Nice, basic multimeter with temperature (probe) functionality included.
This is a replacement multimeter for a malfunctioning 61-310 that's no longer made and in my trash can. Even though my 61-310 was in great condition, it was beyond the 2-yr warranty. I liked the simplicity of the older 61-310 and positive stops for AC, DC, etc. I don't need RMS and extreme accuracy, so a basic meter has served me best. Throw in a temperature probe and thermometer capability and this meter is even more productive for me. Of course I have Fluke and other brands--far better and more expensive--but sometimes cheap and simple serves just as well. The only other thing I dislike is this meter is thicker due to plastic, protective molding was added to back to hold probes. My 61-310 didn't have these molded holders and I never missed them. Luckily, the new 61-340 is just slim enough still to fit in my Cornwell rollaway drawer (any taller and the drawer won't close). Overall, once I get used to this newer, simple model, I'm sure I'll like it as well as the former 61-310. Already the temperature probe is an upgrade over the basic bead I got with the old 61-310. As for accuracy, it's a less expensive unit but still impressive. Overload safety protection seems fairly robust. No case. Skin packaged. I think I paid at least $25 more for this unit than the former. Overall, satisfied with the purchase.

Accurate but not very rugged....
This meter was good and accurate for about 3 months, it did not hold up well, I've had it 5 months I blew the 500mA fuse taking measurements on a low Voltage dc circuit... Granted I walk a mile to college every day with this meter rain snow and shine It should have held up better for 100 dollars.... The temperature measurements are extremely important to what I do and even brand new it just was not accurate, now its stuck on 64 degrees no matter what. The fuses are over priced and really difficult to find, perhaps the blown fuse is the cause of the problems, but im not willing to put the time and money into this meter if the fuse is not going to fix the calibration issues. I'm going to try the fluke 116 and hope that it is more reliable.
