A little pricey, but well worth it !
This Garmin Index scale is more expensive than some, but in my opinion, well worth it. And by the way, I paid full price for it, and did not receive it for a discount, or free, in exchange for an “honest” review. I first tried the Easy@Home electronic Bluetooth scale and could not keep it connected to my phone. The scale pared with the free phone app (Android) after a few tries, but the next morning when I went to weigh myself it would not connect and transfer any data, in spite of my phone indicating it was still pared. The same experience repeated itself even after several days of trying, reboots, re-paring, etc. The Garmin scale pared immediately out of the box, the first time, and has not lost paring since. It’s been almost a week and the scale transmits its data flawlessly, every time. There are a few reviews here that indicate they had trouble paring, but I experienced none of those issues, and remember, the Easy@Home scale had constant issues with transmitting its data using my same phone and home wifi. Also, with many Bluetooth scales in the 50-70 dollar range, you will notice many, if not all, indicate the phone app must be launched, and running, in order for the data to be received from the scale, in spite of each scale indicating they have their own proprietary app. Now while all those apps appear to have different “skins” (different presentations of the data and screens), many appear to have the same base, or core, programming that requires the app to be launched, and running, for the data to transmit and be received. This appears to indicate the use of common, perhaps free, core functionality in use with these type apps. Sort of like Windows desktop software being able to customize some user screen appearances, but the basic operating system is the same. With the Garmin Index scale, and the Garmin Connect phone app… there is no need to launch and run the app prior to stepping on the scale. You can step on the scale at any time, and there is no need to grab your phone and launch the app beforehand. In my opinion, this is the way a Bluetooth device should work. I also have the Garmin VivoSmart HR activity tracker. It also utilizes the Garmin Connect phone app. The data from the VivoSmart HR, and the Garmin Index scale, integrate perfectly with the Garmin Connect app. I recommend the Garmin Index scale, and I HIGHLY recommend the Garmin Index scale if you have any of the activity trackers from Garmin. The combined information as displayed in the Garmin Connect app is great. You can track much of the valuable health information all in one spot, and it’s effortless. And just to give this review some perspective, I am 64 years old, 5’9” and 180 lbs. I am not your normal type person that is super athletic. If you’re like me, getting long in the tooth as they say, you will appreciate the ease of setup (for both devices), and the hassle free operation of the Garmin devices, along with the health info and tracking they provide. The only drawback I could find is, the information (data) appears to be stored “in the cloud” as they say. If, (and nowadays it’s seldom) that you are ever out of cell phone reception, and, there is no wifi available, you cannot see you historical data displayed on your phone. Nothing is lost even though you have no reception, it’s just not viewable until a connection is re-established. No biggie in my opinion. For me, the combination of these 2 devices, combined with the ease of use on a daily basis, certainly has made me more aware of my health stats regarding activity and weight. They are also a subtle, but effective, motivator for me to be more active, and perhaps drop a few unwanted pounds. I figure that’s a good thing !

Great Scale If You're Garmin User
I am fully engaged in the Garmin eco system. Using another scale is not an option because I use My Fitness Pal and Garmin Connect. That being said the setup is very easy. However their website is slow in uploading and downloading the information to the scale. That could be the source of some people's complaints. I had previously used the scale that is marketed by "Lose It" along with their iPhone app. While there app is prettier than My Fitness Pal. The scale was very twitchy because of using Bluetooth in uploading the information to my iPhone. It had to re-reset a number of times and eventually I gave up using it. This Garmin scale has all of the same metrics, but uses your router to upload the information to your Garmin connect account. If your fitness apps are compatible with Garmin, all of your nutritional and exercise information is integrated together. No more spreadsheets needed. The scale is one of the most solid made. And gives a very consistent reads. If I have any negative experiences with it I will update my review. However at this point I am very happy with the purchase.

This is the best smart scale on the market. I know I tried them all!
All the others have a Massive failing. I didn't go with the garmin at first because all the idiot reviewers put it down. 1) it is fast. You don't think that matters, but the fitbit is slow 2) You get on, and it's on myfitnesspal, none of this connects to your phone. it's wifi. no it didn't sync because the app is flaky like the greater goods scale 3) it gives you a lot of data. the fitbit did nothing useful. Granted none of these are even good approximations compared to say an inbody scan. 4) it is accurate, for weight at least. The fitbit gave me 10 lbs off if I stepped on it wrong. This guy gets it right. It reports real weight, and doesn't removed 2 lbs like lesser companies will as a weak attempt to get you to keep the scale. 5) a lot of people say this is the scale if you are in the garmin world. That is probably true, but I own nothing garmin. They have the best app, best quality. This is the everyone scale.

Great product if you are a Garmin user
In all honesty I don't think I would have purchased this product if I didn't already use a Garmin watch and the Garmin Connect app. But, since I do I think this scale is fantastic! It was really easy to set up and get connected to the device and once I had it figured out for myself, adding my husband as a user was a simple "invite" through the app. The guide says the scale will estimate which user is on the scale based on weight so if you are similar you have to manually tap through to save as the correct user. We are about 20 lbs different and the first time my hubby used it it couldn't tell us apart and saved the data on my account. It took a little searching in the app but I finally figured out how to delete the entry and he took a few tries to get the hang of changing users but now it works just fine. I really like that it automatically saves weight, BMI, body fat %, water, lean mass and bone mass to the app and is easy to track over time. I have noticed some changes in my daily calorie burn from my watch since using the scale so I'm hoping this is helping to make that more accurate. Ihavent tried connecting to apps like My Fitness Pal or anything so I can't comment on how well that works. All in all I would definitely recommend the scale of you're a Garmin user and want to keep things all synced. If it were a standalone scale / app I think there are other options out there that would be better.

I bought the Garmin Index Scale as I am a runner and have used Garmin products for many years. As such, I have Garmin Connect already set up on my iPhone and it does an excellent job tracking my running and fitness. The scale seemed to be a logical addition and the data-tracking seemed like a smart addition to the rest of what Connect tracks. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the product reviews about people having difficulty setting it up and linking to Garmin Connect. So let me put the record straight. The whole setup took about three minutes and was easy. You pop in the batteries. Select your unit of measurement and it powers up. Log into Garmin Connect on your smartphone (Bluetooth on) and add the Index Scale as a new Garmin device. Enter your WiFi network key and the pairing is complete. I hopped on the scale and all the data flowed directly into Connect. I invited two family members, who also had Connect accounts, right away. They accepted the invitation and were immediately paired. That's the whole process and it's simple. If you're technically inclined enough to set up the Garmin Connect app on your phone, the scale is a no-brainer. Five stars. It's a cool-looking high tech design too. Well done, Garmin!

Great Scale. Weight is fairly accurate. %fat seems accurate, but you can never really verify the accuracy. 7 point caliper test is fairly close to the scale reading, so all you can do is set some goals, and keep an eye in the mirror. Watch the scale as you lose weight and verify the result with a 7 point caliper test. I have a winter weight goal of 13% fat, and go down to 10% fat in the spring. They should dump the BMI as it is old school from the 1900's and useless and it wastes 3 seconds of my day everyday looking at it first. The scale is not the end tool, but just a tool in fitness, so don't nerd out on the technical stuff.
