I am crazy about licorice! These are “mints” (there is no mint in them, or mint flavor!), otherwise called pastilles; they look like round tablets, but bigger. They dissolve slowly in your mouth. These have a great authentic licorice taste, and are not overly sweet! And only 4 calories apiece! I’m a fan!

I was so disappointed when I took one, expecting a wonderful taste of licorice. There was no flavor, at all. I read other reviews and some people loved them, others were disappointed. Apparently there is an inconsistency with the product. It's too bad because they sound like they were what I expected so I was very disappointed. I would be willing to exchange for another box.

I was disappointed in this candy. The licorice flavor is barely there and these sort of crumble like how you would imagine wet chalk would. That’s the best I can describe the texture and flavor. If you’re looking for the blandest black licorice product - you found it!

As a kid, I would buy tiny but powerful licorice candies and would suck on them during class. These are not those. This was an entirely wasted use of my money. These “mints” are neither mints nor are they in any way worthy of the “jackhammer” label. These candies are TASTELESS! They have a sweet flavor reminiscent of licorice but that is as close as they get to actual licorice…a reminder of what we lost. The finish taste left behind on your tongue is a weird chemical sensation. BLEAH!!

Decided to try these and they are the best.

If you're like me, you deeply miss Altoids Licorice mints, and are here hoping for find some sort of substitute for your addiction. Sadly, this is not close. Although it does have a decent taste of black licorice, it's much more subtle than what I remember the Altoids delivering. I'd call Clawhammer mints a 5 on the strength meter, with the Altoids scoring a none-more-black 11. The packaging is cute and doesn't follow the standard Altoids tin size. Some folks might find that appealing, or don't care. But as a maker, I make too many things out of Altoids tins as well as similar mint tins, like Newman's Own, and so I would have preferred the standard tin. Plus the standard tin is easier to open and is also more conducive for offering someone a mint. It's easier to open an Altoids-type tin and allow your friend to select a mint. With this Clawhammer tin, your only option is to pretty much just shake the container into an open hand and hope one and only one mint comes out. Not good unless you're feeling particularly generous. Finally, these are substantially more expensive per ounce than Altoids. Seeing how Altoids stopped making Altoids Licorice years ago, I wouldn't have minded so much to spend premium on black licorice mints so long as they came close to matching the Altoids. But sadly these don't.
