Cesaria Evora Best of

If one hasn't yet discovered by richness of the voice of Cape Verde Is., one can begin with any CD and one will be hooked for life. Her voice is pure, emotionally delivering 'mornas' which is the style of music unique to these islands, sung in a mixture of Portuguese and Kriolu. No matter. Her voice transcends, mesmerizes, captivates, soars. Since, each CD available has been purchased, and will no doubt become my favorite possessions.

I discovered Cesaris Evora's voice watching "Tchindas", a PBS documentary taking place in Cape Verde. I was stunned by how beautiful the music was in this film, and had to find out who was singing. You will be hard-pressed to find more beautiful music anywhere--this woman's voice and the songs will haunt you for ever. Especially the slower ballads in classic Morna style--they are unbelievably beautiful. You'll close your eyes and drift away. They call her "The Queen of Morna." One listen will tell you why. But one listen will never be enough. Put this on and be swept away in her voice.

good album

There are a few "Best of Cesaria Evora" out there. This is by far the best collection of her songs or Mornas as they are called. The first track "Besame Mucho" is by in itself worth buying this whole CD for.

This is the first CD I have had from her but it is amazing. Great blend of songs and a rare inclusion of her version of Besame Mucho, which cannot be beat. A real gem.

One of my favorite singersI love Cesaria and the first song is so wonderful! Rest of songs just as wonderful. I keep playing her songs over and over.
